Band 7 IELTS Essay

Smacking children is regarded as a traditional and effective form of discipline in several cultures. Some parents discipline their kids physically in an effort to keep them in line. This essay will make the case that it is wholly inappropriate to teach children through violence. Since ancient times, parents who struggled to manage their children's behaviour have frequently turned to force. Even today, there are still many families who believe that hitting their kids would make them smarter and more polite as adults. This has occurred in the past and is still taking place today. In part because parents don't understand their children's requirements and aren't well-educated enough to deal with children's temperament. Another factor is that most parents received their education in a similar way, so they are sharing that experience with their kids. For instance, Romania still has a high rate of domestic abuse, with children suffering the most, particularly in the countryside. Even if hitting a youngster temporarily produced the desired result, this practice is now wholly inappropriate. Although striking kids can temporarily make them submit in some circumstances. Yet using physical punishment as a form of discipline has a negative effect on how they develop as people in the long run. Long-term effects of the trauma will be felt by both the youngsters and the adults they will grow into. This form of discipline may also produce future abusers, criminals, or violent adults. A parent might strike his child the same way he would if he had been struck as a youngster. They will repeat their early relationships with their partners and children in their later relationships. These are a few reasons why using violence to educate children is inappropriate. In conclusion, physical violence is utterly inappropriate and ineffective as a teaching tool for youngsters. Smacking youngsters, in my opinion, shows adult weakness and ignorance and is categorically prohibited.

Band 7.5 IELTS Essay

Some people believe that good behaviour in children comes only through physical punishments. Some people believe that disciplining children is better than just physically handling them. This essay will argue why punishing children for good behaviour is completely unacceptable.Adults think that hitting their children will discipline them. Their mindset is based on the idea that if they are strict now, their children will prosper in the future. Moreover, parents are very concerned that their children may go sideways in their careers if they are not strict enough. Basically, they feel that they are guiding the children to stay on the right path.

On the other hand, punishing children is not acceptable in any way or form. This will make them pushy and fearless in the future. They feel that they have been controlled since their childhood. External pressure will change their views. For instance, we commonly see children thinking about suicide for fear of corporal punishment at home if they fail an exam. However, they become more ferocious as they age and are more likely to be withdrawn from society. Second, children who are repeatedly physically punished may grow up to be aggressive adults. As a result, they become aggressive and assertive in every little matter. Thus, this adversely affects their behaviour. A study by the Child Development Society of Australia has also proven that children who receive severe corporal punishment at an early age are ruder. They are ruder to their peers, parents, and teachers. Therefore, smacking is not the best approach to correct student errors.Last but not least, penalising will also increase the gap in the relationship between parents and children. Therefore, children start to distance themselves from their parents resulting in the dissolution of their solid bond. In conclusion, this essay argued why it is not appropriate to spank children for disciplinary actions. In my opinion, I totally disagree with the given statement and children should be handled gently.

Band 8 IELTS Essay

Smacking children has become increasingly popular among certain demographic segments of society. These people claim that corporal punishment is the best way to discipline the youth. I totally disagree with this proposal as it adversely affects child psychology.

It is quite easy to understand why some individuals favour this unacceptable behaviour. This is mainly because they believe that it will instil fear in young people and help them become well-behaved individuals. If a parent gives corporal punishment to his child for doing something wrong, he will certainly be reluctant to repeat the same thing in the future. As a result, he will become a disciplined person. For example, slapping a child when he misbehaves with his siblings means that he is obviously not misbehaving with other youngsters. In short, from these people's perspective, beating the youth is necessary to prevent them from engaging in antisocial acts. Although many parents see smacking as a way to discipline children, smacking has nothing to do with discipline. Using smacking is an ineffective way of disciplining a child. It is worth mentioning that smacking has nothing to do with parenting, although people often misunderstand it.

However, this idea does not seem fair to me as it can have a detrimental effect on child psychology in the long run. A teenager, who is subjected to physical punishment all the time, is more likely to become a rebellious adult. They see their parents hitting or slapping them for small mistakes, they become more aggressive and short-tempered. Exposure to constant physical violence weakens their psychology; Therefore, they are unable to distinguish between acceptable and unacceptable behaviour. I believe that instead of practising this cruel act, it is better to deal with the child's behavioural issues gently. Parents' examples can often help young minds become responsible as they tend to imitate by observing the environment. Studies have also shown that children who learn self-discipline are less likely to stray when tempted to do so.

In conclusion, smacking is really a rude practice, and parents who use this act should understand the importance of teaching self-discipline. It is the parent's responsibility to create a healthy environment at home where the child can learn self-discipline.
