TOPIC: SKY Speaking Part 1
Question 1. How often do you look at the sky?
Answer: Sincerely, not much. The likelihood of gazing up at the sky has decreased even more as a result of the Covid-19 situation and the possibility of working from home. Due to my hectic schedule, I spent the majority of my time working on the computer in my room. I haven't recently admired the sky's splendor.
Vocabulary
Question 2. Do you prefer the sky in the morning or at night?
Answer: I like both, but if I had to choose one, I would choose stargazing at night. The darkness brings about a great deal of silence. There is no commotion or noise. The night is charming due to the peacefulness of the moon and the brilliant stars. You can just stare at them and speak. It gives me a sense of tranquility that I haven't had in a long time.
Vocabulary
Question 3. Can you see the moon and the stars at night where you live?
Answer: Not so clearly, since I live in a metropolitan city which is highly polluted, it’s difficult to see stars distinctly. The sky appears hazy because of the alarming pollution level and my house is on the second floor whereas neighboring houses are quite taller. The rooftop is not our property therefore I can’t go there and admire these celestial bodies.
Vocabulary
Question 4. Which part of your country is the best place for stargazing at night?
Answer: I think the majority of the rural areas and hilly areas are perfect places for stargazing. Since the pollution level in such areas is low, stars are easily visible. The best skyline I had ever seen was when I went to do trekking in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand. The sky was filled with stars. With mountains in the background and stars above our heads, I felt magical.
Vocabulary
Question 5. Do you like to watch the sky?
Answer: Who doesn’t like to watch the sky? I love to watch sunrise and sunset but unfortunately, I am unable to. With the area being surrounded by high-rise buildings it’s nearly impossible to look at the sky.
Vocabulary
Question 6. Do you like to watch stars?
Answer: Yes, I do but I live in the most polluted city in India. The atmosphere is covered with a blanket of pollution, that’s why looking for stars in the sky is like looking for a pearl in the ocean.
Vocabulary
Question 7. What is the sky like at night in your hometown?
Answer: Not so appealing, I don’t remember when was the last time I did star gazing from my house. But when I visit my uncle’s house, I and my cousins sit on the rooftop during night time and count stars and play games. The skyline there is beautiful but not in my hometown.
Vocabulary
Question 8. Have you ever taken a course about stars?
Answer: Though I have read about stars, constellations, big bang collisions astronomy has never been my area of interest that much. I like to read about the universe and galaxies just to gain knowledge. My interest is majorly in the medicinal and genetics field.
Vocabulary
Question 9. What is your favorite star?
Answer: Instead of a favourite star, I choose the constellation Ursa Major, often known as the Great Bear or Saptrishi. It is my favourite since my mother and I used to go to my maternal uncle's place during the summer holidays. I used to count the stars in this constellation as my cousins and I dozed off on the rooftop. We used to play a game every night, trying to find Ursa Major in the sky. Even though it is visible all year long, the only place I could view it clearly was from my uncle's house. It is meaningful to me since it brings back memories from my early years.
