Topic: Some people think that shops should sell the food items of the local market rather than selling foods of other countries. Do you agree or disagree?

Band 6 IELTS Essay

Many people believe that stores should sell foods made in their own region rather than imports. I wholeheartedly concur that local foods should be the sole ones offered for sale in supermarkets. As a result, the purpose of this essay is to present arguments in favour of supermarkets selling solely locally-produced food.

First off, it will have a favourable impact on the nation's economic growth, which is one of the obvious advantages of this. Because local manufacturers are prepared to pay their taxes as a result of the growth in consumer spending. This indicates that the amount of income generated would greatly rise. As an illustration, a unique survey by the West African bureau of statistics revealed a 70% rise in the money generated in Nigeria from locally produced food. This demonstrates the degree to which selling just food produced locally can be advantageous for a nation. Additionally, the fact that it would lower unemployment is another noteworthy advantage. Since manufacturers and business owners would need more workers for manufacturing in order to keep up with the high demand for the items from consumers. This will lead to the creation of more jobs. For instance, a 2016 study by the New York Times stated that Singapore's unemployment rate was reduced. Due to the abundance of jobs available in local businesses, a large portion of this is ascribed to the market's sale of only locally produced products. Last but not least, this will support agricultural activity. The majority of the raw materials used to produce food come from farms. For instance, companies that process canned tomatoes need fresh tomatoes for production. It will increase tomato cultivation across the nation as a result of the increased demand for farm products. In conclusion, I believe there are numerous benefits to just selling food that is grown locally.

Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

Foods in containers are one of the key globally popular fast-moving consumer commodities in the contemporary market. People are strongly of the opinion that domestic goods should be promoted above imported ones. While it is true that there is a place for imported foodstuffs in society, I think it is best to prioritise locally produced goods.

Because they are better for both the local economy and the welfare of the consumer. The cost of locally available food raw materials is lower than that of other sources, and this is unavoidable. This is due to the fact that some goods are free from some fees because they are manufactured and sold domestically. As an illustration, traders must pay a significant sum of money once they get the shipment, which might double the actual cost of the food items. Due to the need to remain competitive, some businesses are compelled to raise the price. Customers can therefore save money by supporting locally produced food goods. Additionally, the local trade of these goods is extremely advantageous to the economy of the country. The reason for this is that the money will flow domestically and positively impact the country's economic scale. For instance, it goes without saying that vendors of imported goods will mark them up significantly for profit, resulting in a significant cash outflow. As a result, this might be a factor in a country's recession. Consuming the goods offered in the area would thereby contribute to preserving the country's financial stability. The local ration goods should be prioritised far above the international ones when it comes to food supplies, in conclusion. Although there will be a large selection of goods available from other nations, shopping locally can help people save money and eventually improve the economy. Therefore, the government should pass legislation banning imported goods and mandating that only locally produced foods be sold in markets.

Band 7 IELTS Essay

In the current day of globalization, a wide variety of meals, especially packaged foods, are offered everywhere. Some people believe that rather than selling imported food products, store owners should exclusively sell locally sourced food items. I concur with their viewpoint since local food vendors may support their country's economy and prevent people from being ill by selling their products. Shopkeepers can aid in increasing the economy of their nation if they place a strong emphasis on selling locally produced goods like fruits and vegetables.

This is due to the fact that when local product sales expand, demand will increase and farmers will be able to sell their goods to retailers at fair prices. They will be able to make more money because this will enhance their margins. Farmers in the area will be able to live happy and profitable lives when there is more money left over. A rise in their level of living indicates that country's economic strength, particularly agrarian nations like India. As a result, by promoting local cuisine, local retailers can significantly contribute to the economic strength of their nation. Some people counter that because consumers can consume non-seasonal fruits and vegetables throughout the entire year. Imported commodities can give them a wide range of options. They make a good case, and I somewhat agree with them, yet processed meals may be bad for consumers' health. Many additives and preservatives are included in this category of foods. People may develop various ailments as a result of eating certain foods. According to recent studies, eating processed food can increase a person's risk of developing allergies and cancer. As a result, store owners should refrain from selling any imported food items that can be hazardous to the populace instead of promoting local foods. In conclusion, business owners that sell regional foods can help their entire nation become more economically robust. Imported foods can still give individuals a wide range of options, but at the expense of their health. I think stores should only carry products from the surrounding area.
