Topic: Today large shopping centers and supermarkets are more common than small local shops. Is this a negative or positive development?

Model Answer 1

In this modern era supermarkets and malls have gained huge popularity due to their exclusive variety of products and services. Whereas on the other hand, small local shops have been losing their earnings. Nowadays customers compare a variety of products with the money they spent on it. Thus large shopping centers and malls have been gaining this trend due to the huge varieties they offer with different prices. There are many advantages to this. But one cannot ignore the negative aspects of it.

To start with, a consumer buys a product based on various factors. That is quality, price, variety, customer support etc which the supermarkets are capable of giving. This is very much helpful for the shopper to come and choose the product that suits their needs and achieve satisfaction. However, there might be people with different perspectives. Spoke might be looking for good quality. Others might be looking for just cheap or affordable prices. This thing is hardly possible in the case of small stores as they fail to meet the above criteria. Besides, they can also purchase different types of goods and services from one particular place which saves time and energy. Moreover, supermarkets and shopping malls market their goods and services. In such a way that the product becomes attractive and they pull a huge amount of customer service. They also provide rebates, discounts and credits to their customers to increase the revenue which the small shops can't. The product quality of shopping malls is more trustworthy than small shops or open stalls. As they deal with suppliers who provide quality goods at reasonable prices.

To end with, I believe that the benefits and facilities of supermarkets and large malls have a positive growth on society. They provide a huge number of employment and thus increase the economy of an area. Their wide offerings have led to a positive impact on the development of the country overall.

Model Answer 2

With the advancement of technology and globalization, malls and a large number of shopping markets have had an impact on the day-to-day needs of human beings. Consumers are more bent on shopping from malls and supermarkets than local small shops. This new trend of shopping has had an impact on the lives of human beings. This has both advantages and drawbacks.

A customer may find every type of product and service under one roof in the case of malls and supermarkets. There are huge varieties of clothing, groceries, home furnishing and personal usable items. Thus it becomes easy for the person to buy things from one place at a go. Whereas it is difficult and time-consuming for a consumer to go to every single shop at different places to buy things in case of small local shops. Sometimes it may also happen that the customer forgets a thing to buy and returns home. Therefore, the modern shopping sector has proven to be more effective in making the lives of people easier.

On the other hand, this new-age shopping complex and buildings have disadvantages too. The local vendors and shopkeepers lose their business impacting their families. Small family businesses which have been from the past lose their businesses and incur losses. Small shopkeepers are not skillful enough to take up another job. Moreover, there are jobs like pottery that portray the Indian tradition and culture that fits well with small local shops and businessmen. For example, Even if a mall is set up in Varanasi, people will prefer buying things related to puja from local vendors and small shops.

Thus to conclude, I believe malls and supermarkets have made lives easier with their comforting facilities. But the market should accommodate the local small shops and vendors too for maintaining the economic balance In society.

Model Answer 3

Supermarkets and large shopping malls have played an important role in the life of people. It has gained profit and popularity over the years due to their wide range of convenience. While I agree it is on the side of positiveness, it also has some negatives.

On one hand, consumers find it convenient to buy things from one place to save time. It lessons their effort of traveling as they get their daily needs and luxuries under one roof. They can choose from a variety of products and services and buy the best for them after comparing. For example, a mall contains a huge variety of bags with different brands and prices. This will help the customer to choose wisely by comparing each brand and quality. Secondly, the small shops mainly sell a product without a verified origin or after-sales services. If a product is brought from a supermarket or mall, its quality and after-sales service will be guaranteed.

On the other hand, this positive trend can push the other side to a dead-end. Businesses of small and local buyers get affected due to high competition between them and malls. The local economy will slowly come down and will make it difficult for them to meet their needs. Last but not least, huge malls and Supermarket complexes acquire a lot of space. Due to this, the environment is getting depleted too and there is less greenery.

Thus to conclude, it is a fact that malls and supermarkets have made our lives easier. But we should also take into consideration the poor shopkeepers. And local vendors as they are an integral part of the economy too. They have to earn for their living as well. The growing influence of big stores and malls might destroy their financial stability. Many of them have a family to feed. This will make them go in search of some other work. So it is a negative aspect as well.
