Band 8 IELTS Essay

Junk food or processed foods have become a trend. People mostly use them as evening snacks or morning breakfast. Most people tend to indulge in processed foods which can adversely affect their health. To solve this problem, some people believe that education is the way of reducing the consumption of fast foods. There is another genre of people who thinks that only educating will not work. In my opinion, only educating people will not prove to be enough to stop them from consumption of junk foods.

If we talk about Education, it can undoubtedly help people to change their perspective regarding junk food consumption. Education can be used to spread awareness regarding the negative impacts of the consumption of processed foods. People should be made aware of the contents of junk food. The oil used is old and the ingredients used are not fresh. Every processed and junk food has lots of fat, preservatives, and cholesterol content. These foods, therefore, are rich in calories but provide negligible amounts of nutrition. They are also harmful to the internal organs of the body.

Over-consumption of junk food can result in several diseases, for example, heart disease, cancer, obesity, and diabetes. Some of these diseases can even prove to be fatal. A recent survey conducted by the Guardian Newspaper of America (GNA) found that 30 percent of adolescents started consuming homemade meals after being mentioned to be obese. This proves that education and awareness regarding junk food will improve the lifestyle of people. People will avoid junk food more if they are aware of the consequences.

This will work but mass education alone cannot bring about a huge change. The lifestyle of people has made them dependent on junk foods. Most people tend to have a very busy schedule and thus, do not have enough time to prepare a healthy meal. They go for frozen foods or junk foods. Processed foods are, therefore, preferred as they can be prepared faster and more easily. Many office goers favor junk foods due to their convenience and portability. Hence, only education will not help. I believe that the government should impose higher taxes on junk food. There should be strict legal action that will have an immediate impact on consumer behavior. In conclusion, I believe that some strict rules regarding the stoppage of junk foods will help in reducing consumption.

Band 7 IELTS Essay

The consumption of junk food has become quite common in the 21st century. However, its increased consumption might have adverse impacts on the health of individuals. Some people think that education alone will not be able to solve the problem of increased consumption of junk foods. However, I completely disagree with this notion. My reasons for the same have been explained in the following paragraphs.

Many people across the globe indulge in the consumption of junk foods. This is because processed foods take a lot less time to prepare. This is an important point that needs to be considered in the fast-paced world of the present times.

For example, several intellectual officers prefer junk foods to homemade meals due to their convenience and portability. Several measures taken up by the Government, for example, increasing taxation schemes on junk foods, have proved to be effective only to a certain extent.

Education can prove to be a useful tool in curbing junk food consumption by people. Mass education would give an insight into the constituents of junk foods. For example, people would know that processed foods are mostly made up of salt, sugar, and preservatives. It would also help people to realize the harmful effects of junk food consumption. It can enlighten them about the fatal diseases, for example, cancer, heart diseases, diabetes, and obesity, that might result from the over-consumption of processed foods. Thus, it would help people to become more alert regarding their food intake. For example, according to a survey conducted by the Guardian Newspaper of America (GNA) in 2019, about 30 percent of adolescents switched to homemade meals after being declared to be obese and realizing that they were prone to getting heart diseases in the future.

Additionally, in my opinion, educating the masses regarding nutrition levels would have a more long-lasting impact on the people, in general, as compared to other measures, for example, imposing a higher taxation scheme on junk food.

In conclusion, it can be said that educating the masses would bring a change in the lifestyle of the people. This would be beneficial to people of all ages and professions. It would have a wider and more permanent impact.

Band 6 IELTS Essay

Over the past decade, the eating habits of people have changed tremendously. Junk food has emerged as the new favorite of all youngsters and adolescents. However, the consumption of fast food greatly hampers the health of individuals. Some people opine that proper education can help reduce the consumption of fast food. However, in my opinion, other methods are also required to curb the consumption of junk food.

Education plays an important role in enlightening people regarding the harmful effects of fast food consumption. The educational institutions have incorporated topics, for example, healthy eating habits in the school curriculum. Teaching children about junk food and its possible consequences can be beneficial for society. The children would realize that the consumption of processed foods can lead to the development of fatal diseases, for example, cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. Thus, it would help the children to follow a healthy lifestyle from a young age. For example, according to a survey conducted by the Guardian Newspaper of America (GNA) in 2019, about 30 percent of adolescents switched to homemade meals after realizing that they were obese and thus, were more prone to heart diseases.

However, education alone cannot change the lifestyle and behavior of consumers. Many people prefer processed food to homemade meals because the former is easier and faster to cook. This is important as most people in the present-day world have a busy schedule and hardly have time to prepare healthy food. Thus, companies should try to reduce the workload as well as provide hygienic and healthy food options in their cafeterias to promote good dietary habits of the people. Such a culture would greatly benefit a huge section of the population.

Additionally, the companies responsible for manufacturing junk foods could use more healthy options while preparing these foods. For example, companies could use fewer preservatives in their processed foods. This would greatly benefit the health of all individuals in society.

The Government could also take steps, for example, imposing higher taxation schemes, to curb junk food consumption. Such strict legal actions would have a strong impact on consumer behavior. The people would restrain from buying junk food due to their high prices.

In conclusion, it can be said that mass education along with other measures must be used to reduce the consumption of fast food by people.
