Reasons of Students Choosing a Particular UK University in 1987 and 2007 IELTS Writing Task 1 is an academic task. The IELTS academic writing task 1 deals with info-graphic questions. The pie chart above shows information about five main reasons for the choice of students of a British university in 1987 and 2007. It can be clearly seen that the largest proportion of the students opted for this institute because of the courses it offered. While the least attention was given to the distance between the institute and the houses of the students, the students paid the least attention to sports and social activities when they applied for the school in 2007.

The students were more likely to take into consideration the teaching quality, training programs, and extra-curricular activities. This saw a minimal rise after two decades due to the former two criteria, from 35% to 37% and from 15% to 18%, respectively. However, 10% of the students came to that decision on the basis of the distance between the institute and their parents’ house in 1987. This percentage rose to 22% twenty years later.

The students put less priority on the quality of resources and extracurricular activities quality of resources and extra-curricular activities after twenty years. There was a decrease of 2% witnessed in the proportion of the students who care about the quality of teaching. Only 6% of students stated other reasons which were one-third of the figure seen in 1987.

In 1987, the percentage of students choosing a university for getting a degree saw a slight increase from 35% to 37%. The quality of resources was the sole reason in the first year. Preference for sports and recreation saw a decrease from 19% to 6% in 2007. It became the least chosen reason that year.

The percentage of the students who were concerned about the quality of the faculty of their universities dropped from 15% to 8% during the period examined.

By the year 2017, the students were most likely to take the distance from the university to their parents’ house into consideration. The figure increased from 10% in 1987 to 22% in 2007. Fitness continued to be a big reason for the students and it rose by 2% to 37%.

Going by the charts, 35% of the reasons were driven by suitable degrees in the year 1987. The percentage of this preference was higher than the quality of sports/social activities by 14% and 16%, respectively. The quality of teaching and the proximity between the students and the house of their parents were down in the preferences of the students; 15% and 10%.

In a contrast, after two decades, the proportion of the students choosing their universities by taking into consideration the distance between the same and their parents’ houses saw a considerable rise to almost by a quarter. In addition to that, after two decades, that reason grew more and more popular and reached 37%, two percent higher. Moreover, the same pattern can be seen in the case of the students who take into consideration the distance between the university and the house of their parents and the quality of teaching. The factor of proximity reached a percentage of 22% in 2007. The percentage increased twofold from what it was in the past. The proportion of the students who chose the quality of education increased to 15% due to a slight increase.

The percentage of the students putting sports and activities first saw a sharp decline in 2007 in a contrast. The decline from 19% to 6% was alarming as it dropped down to more than three times. The second rank belonged to the quality of education, which boasted of being preferred by 21% of the students, dropped to 4%.
