Topic: Reading stories from a book is better than watching TV

Band 7 IELTS Essay

Reading books to children is a fundamental way for them to gain information and broaden their brains. Although watching TV and playing computer games are both popular educational techniques among youngsters, I feel that reading books is superior and provides more benefits.

Reading is more beneficial than watching TV or playing video games since it is an active activity. Reading, like every other talent, requires practice. Children must devote 100% of their attention to the text to properly comprehend the material. Furthermore, rather than just comprehending a topic, children's imaginations grow as they envision the characters from the descriptions they read, allowing them to learn more quickly and thoroughly in the future.

Reading tales also aids language development in youngsters, since children acquire pronunciation and vocabulary when reading stories. It also improves a child's capacity to concentrate and enhances his or her attention span. It improves children's capacity to communicate themselves in spoken and written language with more confidence, ease, and clarity. It encourages and enhances a child's innate curiosity. On the other hand, the knowledge conveyed through vivid graphics on-screen is simpler for children to absorb, but too many moving objects and bright images might divert children's attention away from other vital activities, particularly for young children. Playing computer games may sometimes be highly addictive, causing youngsters to neglect their assignments. Spending too much time in front of a computer screen or watching TV can also contribute to health issues including shortsightedness. As a result, reading is beneficial to both efficiency and health. It is worth repeating that reading stories in books is preferable to watching television or playing computer games since it is a more effective means of learning and is healthier for one's health.

Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

While it has been said that reading books for enjoyment rather than watching TV is better for developing one's creativity and language abilities, I believe that the former has an equal impact on intellect and linguistic ability. On the one hand, books have an important role in children's growth and creativity. To grasp concepts and logic, a child reading a fairy tale with illustrations will have to ponder, daydream, and utilize their creativity, which will enhance their mental skills. Furthermore, reading books aids in the development of linguistic abilities.

Reading a book published in a language other than our mother tongue helps us create a solid linguistic basis, whether it's referring to its vocabulary or grasping the meaning of a term in multiple circumstances. Watching television, on the other hand, is seen as a valuable pastime, comparable to reading, in terms of cultivating one's imagination in terms of program features. For starters, when viewers watch a tourist channel, they are exposed to a broad range of information via capturing photos of global landscapes or tasting specialities from many geographical areas. Quiz shows are an effective learning tool for both youngsters and adults who want to take on challenges that require critical thinking.

Second, television has a critical function in improving language proficiency. Recent English shows not only help viewers recall words by connecting them with vivid pictures on the screen, but they also keep their interest by including amusing elements. While the advantages of reading are clear, the significance of television in improving a person's imagination and linguistic abilities cannot be overstated.

Band 7.5 IELTS Essay

Children are readily influenced in modern life when they engage with information from many sources such as video games, television shows, music, and literature. Some argue that youngsters benefit more from reading books than from watching movies or playing computer games. I disagree with this viewpoint and support the use of digital items.

To begin with, reading books is a great way for adults to unwind or even study and research, but it is not appropriate for youngsters. The first explanation is that the youngsters do not appear to be delighted when they have books or letters in their hands. Even though it contains a lot of useful information, reading takes a lot of patience, which many youngsters lack. The evidence to support this claim is that just a few students read books willingly the night before to prepare for new classes the next morning; instead, they choose to play games or watch TV shows before bedtime. Cartoons and games seem to automatically capture their interest. In this way, films are used in education in a variety of nations; teachings are more engaging, lively, and understandable when they are accompanied by visuals and sounds. Despite favorable perceptions, excessive gaming and television viewing are two of the leading causes of eye disorders such as myopia and astigmatism. In this example, even though reading books was chosen as an alternate approach, children nevertheless understood all of the critical information when watching movies on computers. It is important to prevent youngsters from eye disorders, even though it is more difficult. Nonetheless, books are being made better; individuals are using more graphics and colors to make them more appealing. For instance, any fairy tale novels that are curiously and colorfully designed pique the interest of children.

In my opinion, this is a clever marketing strategy by manufacturers since it allows many parents to simply limit their children's exposure to computers or televisions. Finally, movies and computer games are excellent resources for not just entertainment, networking, and business, but also for study and education. They progressively, but insufficiently, replace conventional educational techniques such as reading books.
