Topic: The maps below show the centre of a small town called Islip as it is now, and plans for its development. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Band 7 Answer

The above portrayed image highlights the existing layout of the centre of a small town Islip. Moreover, the second map is a plan based on which the Islip town will be reconstructed.

The major aim of this project is to incorporate changes within the town centre. These need to be accommodated with modern facilities and establishment of more housing complexes.

It can be seen in the image provided above that a main road is planned to be established running from east to west. The road leads to two different destinations. One of the roads leads to the school in southwestern part of the town centre. Further, the other road leads to a park in the southeast. The plan is to change the roads and make it pedestrian friendly. In addition, it is also being planned that both sides of the roads are required to be turned into a dual carriageway. These will further be extended to the countryside north of the town centre.

Moreover, the plan is to demolish all the existing stores or shops on the north of the main road. This will further be overturned into a shopping centre which will accommodate car parking and further will have a bus station nearby.

Nevertheless, to the south of the main road, there exists some shops and housing. The shops will be left undisturbed, the housing on the other hand will be relocated. Some of the spaces accompanied by housing lands will be cleared in order to create space for the establishment of new residential buildings and schools.

Band 6.5 Answer

The maps mentioned above portray the existing plan of Islip town and further a rough exposure to developed one. It is clear from the above map that some places that are pedestrian friendly are to be used for shopping and housing. In addition to that, a new road is being planned in order to allow movements of vehicles through the Islip town.

Thus, focusing on the current map, it can be concluded that the town centre is developed across the main road. This main road stretches from western to eastern parts of the city. There are a number of stores located to the north and south of the road. The city’s major stakes are dedicated to a big area that is located in the south of the Islip town. This area comprises a park in the east and further a school in the south-west. Each of these structures are separately connected to the main roads accompanied by a side road.

The rough map that has been designed based on the developmental aspects, a circular road that goes around the city is the major focus. This road is aimed at establishing a dual carriageway. However, the mid part of the roads are projected to be pedestrianised. Though the southern part of the town is not designed to accommodate bigger changes. However, a park and a housing facility is to be established there.

Band 6 Answer

The maps depict substantial alterations in Seaville, a beach community, over a thirty-year period, from 1980 to 2010.

Over the course of the 30 years, the village underwent significant development from a seasonal settlement to a permanent town. Similar to this, the town's ability to accommodate tourists increased along with infrastructure and facilities.

In 1980, Seaville was a tiny town with few visitors who were housed in cottages or a tiny motel. The East Bank, on the other hand, was pristine. A swamp lay to the east of the cottages, while to the north there was a forest. Apart from the beach, the town's main recreational facility was a tea room.

But by 2010, the town had significantly expanded. To the west of the main road, retirement communities had been constructed. In order to build homes, the marsh had been drained and the cottages destroyed. Both a new high-rise hotel and vacation cottages had been built on the East Bank to accommodate guests. A golf course had been built in place of the destroyed woodlands.
