Physical Exercise Speaking Part 1 is the IELTS Speaking topic. In the model answers, six key questions have been answered including- do you do any exercise, do you think people are keen on doing it, do you like extreme sports etc. Candidates may find the topic in the practice test book of Easy Cue cards for IELTS.

IELTS Speaking Part 1 consists of an introductory section where candidates are asked questions on personal details, family, friends and work. Candidates need to speak for 4-5 minutes in this section of IELTS Speaking. Candidates' speaking abilities are assessed based on this section considering their grammar and vocabulary in the English language. For IELTS speaking preparation, candidates need to practice from IELTS speaking practice papers.

Topic: Physical Exercise or Activities 

  1. Do you do any physical exercise?

Answer: I am an exercise freak. I usually work out five times a week. Previously, I was initially lazy and somewhat loathed working out. However, my carelessness took a toll on my health which further led me to make a lifestyle change. I thus indulge in cardio and resistance training a few times a week. It keeps my body and mind healthy and fit.

Vocabulary:

Loathed: feel intense dislike or disgust for.
Indulge: allow oneself to enjoy the pleasure of.

  1. Do young people in your country like to do exercise?

Answer: Yes, young people are definitely penchant for a healthy living style. Even though gyms in my country are expensive. Often witness youngsters either indulging in outdoor sports or working out at home. There are a plethora of online fitness trainers now whose workouts are available free of cost. Thus, youngsters reap the benefits of the free workouts. There are also many youngsters that actively participate in outdoor games like swimming, biking, hiking and so on. These are undoubtedly some of the best forms of cardio that one can incorporate in their daily workout regime.

Vocabulary:

Penchant: a strong or habitual liking for something or tendency to do something.
Plethora: a large or excessive amount of something.
Regime: a system or ordered way of doing things.

  1. Do you think people are keen on doing physical activity? Why?

Answer: Nowadays, people are less keen on doing physical activities. However, they are doing so to stay healthy and avoid diseases. It came out of necessity but now pwople are used to it. I have not come across many people that are always motivated to work out except the ones who are longing for a toned body, chiseled abs and what not. There are also a fraction of people that would starve themselves to evade working out. Going to the gyms is not something that people popularly like, however there are some that love walking, hiking or any kind of low impact workouts. To sum up, people love exercising as long as it is not as strenuous. But there are some that are complete fitness freaks.

Vocabulary:

Longing: a yearning desire.
Keen: having or showing eagerness or enthusiasm.
Strenuous: requiring or using great effort or exertion.

  1. What Was your favorite sport when you were young?

Answer: My favorite sports when I was young were chess, snakes and ladders, and carrom boards. When I was young I preferred playing these indoor games with my friends or cousins. As a child I played these games daily. I loved playing these games because they made my mind sharp and also I learned to strategize on how to win these games. With a busy schedule I no longer play these games on a daily basis. However, in my free time I love assembling my friends and relive the fun that we had as children while playing these games.

Vocabulary:

Assembling:(of people) gather together in one place for a common purpose.
Relive: live through (an experience or feeling, especially an unpleasant one) again in one's imagination or memory.
Strategize: devise a strategy or strategies.

  1. Do you like extreme sports?

Answer: Extreme sports can be thrilling and fun filled, yet they do involve a risk factor. Paragliding, bungee jumping, rafting, and so on are some of the extreme sports that entail extreme sports. Nowadays people are participating in such extreme sports. However, people with a weak heart must not bear these sports. Even though extreme sports motivate you to overcome your fear and satiate one’s aptitude for thrill. It is a good experience for athletes as well. People can usually break their monotonous routine by indulging in such sports.

Vocabulary:

Monotonous: dull, tedious, and repetitious; lacking in variety and interest.
Entail: involve (something) as a necessary or inevitable part or consequence.
Satiate: satisfied to the full; sated.

  1. Which Physical activities do you usually prefer or love doing in your free time?

Answer: The physical activity that I prefer doing in my free time is cycling. Cycling I believe has numerous benefits like it is good for the joints, burns a lot of calories, besides it can also be used as a means to commute. I prefer cycling for these reasons as I sometimes commute to work via my bike. Being an environment enthusiast I believe cycling should be incorporated as a means to commute by a majority of people.

Vocabulary:

Commute: travel some distance between one's home and place of work on a regular basis.
Incorporated: take in or contain something as part of a whole; include.
