The above-stated chart shows the percentage of households in the United Kingdom possessing consumer durables between the period of 1996 to 2006. It is evident from the chart that other than telephone every consumer durables were publicized. In 2006 the households having them gained way more popularity as compared to 1996.

A little more than 90% of the households had telephones in 1996. Though the percentile dropped to 90% by 2006. Fridges, microwaves, and washing machines were possessed by 70% of households in 1996. The percentile owning microwaves accelerated by 10% in comparison to those owning fridges and washing machines which increased by 5% only. In 1996 the percentage of households with a mobile phone increased by 20% from 1996 to 60% by 2006. The increase was three times high. The highest variance was shown by the houses with an internet connection, rising approximately from 8% in 1996 to 60% by 2006.

Moreover, the maximum households possessed telephones and the lowest had an internet connection in 2006.

According to the observation of the chart, it is evident that consumer durables, other than telephones, witnessed an upward in ownership among the households in the United Kingdom between the period of 1996 to 2006.

There was a slight change in 1996 of households having telephones, and this percentage remained constant at 90% in 2006. Around 70% of the households had fridges, microwaves, and washing machines by 1996. Also, the percentage of households with microwaves accelerated by 10%, whilst households with fridges and washing machines grief by 5% respectively. The percentage of households heightened from 20% in 1996 to 60% in 2006, showing a threefold increase. The vital and noticeable difference was seen in households with internet connections, which increased from approximately 8% in 1996 to roughly 60% in 2006.

Overall, telephones in 2006 were the most wanted and possessed by households. On the other hand, internet connections were gained by the least percentage of households.

The data shown in the table presents the percentage of households in the United Kingdom that had various consumer durables from 1996 to 2006. It is clear that except telephones, all other durables gained popularity during this phase.

As for internet connection, it started at 10% in 1996 and experienced a considerable rise, reaching a height of 60% in 2006. Likewise, the utilization of mobile phones was twice in 2006 leaving the 50% percent mark. The ownership of fridges remained stable in both years. It resulted in nearly a quarter of the households.

On the flip side, the use of fridges, microwaves, and washing machines remained consistent at three- quarters households for the year 1996. Although, the percentage of households having a microwave rose to 80% in 2006, a 10% percent acceleration from 1996. The scenario of telephones was completely distinct from other durables, as the percentage came down to around 88% in 2006 after the prior increase in 1996.
