Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

Different Countries ave different cultures and tradition. However, people often wonder if they should follow those traditions as part of their lifestyle when they start to live in a new country. This is a general question asked by the people of different countries of whether foreigners should follow the customs and traditions of a country they have to visit or reside in. I would personally agree with this view. The main reason is, following the customs and traditions of a specific country means the person is respecting the country and its people.

When a foreigner visits a country, it is beneficial for them to follow the traditions and culture of that country. There are certain countries where there are strict rules regarding religion, legal, economic, and social rules. If a person decides to not abide by the same, they may be in trouble, or will not be treated by the locals. Take, for example, a person who has come to start with a business in another country will need to follow their rules, regulations, and customs. They need to follow up with the legal rules, and how they process, otherwise they may be in trouble. Failing to abide by the rules may also result in losing customers as you will be disrespecting their choices as well. Then there are immigrants who may be treated otherwise if they tend to not follow a country’s rules. In Singapore, it is very much hated by the locals if someone spits gum or litter on the streets. Doing the same thing, you will also be considered dishevelled.

Following the customs and traditions of a new country will be in every way fruitful for a foreigner. If they do that, they will make the locals feel respected, which in return will make their living pleasant. They will be welcomed by the locals, and will not face any sort of difficulty. There will be integrity and a sense of mutual understanding among the foreigners and the host. Therefore, I feel it is important to follow the customs and traditions of another country.

Band 7 IELTS Answer

In the present time, there are numerous people around the world who are willing and planning to relocate to other nations to live the rest of their life. This is common for people who have a job that requires them to travel or someone who wants to spend their retiral life in a nation of their choice. Now, moving to another country is a very good idea, but what comes with it is following their traditions and customs. Each country has its own set of rules and regulations that people must follow. This also means that I agree with the following statement.

An immigrant when moving to another country even if for a brief period of time, needs to abide by the important traditions and customs that govern their country. There are two main reasons for this. The first and very crucial one being, not following the customs and traditions may result in them doing an activity that is illegal. It is very important for immigrants to be knowledgeable about the legal rules of that area, like in most countries playing loud music after 10 pm is not allowed. If you are doing that, that will immediately make the locals dial up the police.

The second reason being, for foreigners not knowing the customs and traditions, will make them distanced from the locals. It is very unlikely for any local to be in touch with the immigrants who are not following their age-old customs and traditions. The immigrants will feel isolated, and eventually not get to be a part of the society. The worst case scenario is, in case of an emergency they may also not get the help they need. Therefore, following traditions and customs are important for every person.

Band 8 IELTS Answer

People nowadays have been moving to a different country in order to find new job opportunities. However, cultural differences are bound to occur and people often find themselves in dilemma whether they should follow the customs and traditions of a different country. It is often discussed that immigrants need to learn the customs and traditions of the place they are residing in. Though it will be helpful for the immigrants to get themselves acquainted with the local culture, rules, and regulations. In my personal opinion, it is better to keep certain traditions within the country to preserve the homogeneity.

On one hand, it is helpful for the immigrants to be knowledgeable about the customs and traditions of the new country they are living in. but at the same time, it is very hard for them to get attached to a whole new set of rules and regulations. They will be encountering new environments, people, languages, and more. Learning about the place will make them more inclined towards society. Incorporating these customs and rules will make their lives easier, and they will be able to glide in easily. In fact, in Quebec, the corporates look for people who are well versed in French and also can adapt to cold environments.

But learning a different country’s cultures and traditions has detrimental effects on the immigrants in many ways. The person would start learning and simultaneously adapting to the same. Eventually, they will start losing touch with their actual culture, traditions, language, and more. This way they will no more be connected to their homeland, and the foreign country in which they are residing will be their home. If this goes on, the world will be on the verge of losing its diversity. Slowly, the world will hold no attractive points for people to look out for.

In conclusion, it can be stated that it is helpful to make things easier for the immigrants. But at the same time, over-employing these factors will make it an issue.
