Band 8 IELTS Essay

These days, people prefer sending written messages instead of talking over the phone. This essay will argue that despite there being time wastage during sending text messages, the benefit of replying to messages as a suitable time far outweighs any drawbacks. The big downside of talking with people through text messaging is that it often wastes many valuable hours. This happens because people wait for the answer until receivers read the message and revert to a message. This waiting period in between sending and receiving a message squanders time. To illustrate, a recent study by Cambridge University found that people who converse via text messaging waste nearly 2 hours more on a daily basis than those who do not. However, many people found this way of doing things to be a convenient way of communication.

The big benefit of talking through text messaging is that people can reply to messages when it is a good time for them. This helps a lot of people who live and work in different time zones, and they need to talk regularly. This actually does not bother the other person as a phone call does and lets them reply whenever they want. It is comfortable for me. For instance, I work as a freelancer and most of my clients are from the US. I talk with them by sending emails and other ways of text messaging. This means that I can reply to their queries of each other as per convenience.

In conclusion, the advantage of replying at a comfortable time far outweighs the supposed disadvantage of wastage of time in a text conversation.

Band 7.5 IELTS Essay

Without question, text messages are more in style these days than phone calls. One of the key reasons for this shift is the fast-paced way of life. In my own viewpoint, I believe that the disadvantages of texting surpass its advantages.

Most importantly, the culture we live in now is very fast-paced. People don't have a lot of time for calls and prefer working asynchronously. As such, text messages are more popular because they seem less formal. One more thing you can do while texting is use very informal language. Additionally, the decision to reply or not lies with the person receiving the message. Additionally, text messages are less aggressive. You just leave a message there and hope for someone to reply. If they answer, it's good. If they don't reply, it's fine. The call is instant, you need to respond right away. Also, text messages are more convenient for hiding emotions. When you call and get angry, the listener can immediately grasp your anger. But in a text message, it doesn't show how furious or irritated you may be. ieltsxpress

This trend has two main disadvantages. At first, it is hard to catch the tone of the sender through text messages and this could cause some misunderstandings. For example, in our everyday life we might have experienced situations where we start a fight over wrong understandings from texting each other. The personal connection, which is best established through calls, also lacks in text messages. It has been proved that hearing the voice of loved ones generates positive emotions that one cannot feel while typing.

In conclusion, using written messages for communication is becoming more common than making phone calls. This shift in trend can be attributed to people having less time and a culture that focuses more on themselves. However, the result of this change is not positive as it increases misunderstandings and loss of personal relationships and closeness.

Band 7 IELTS Essay

Technology now brings more ease and productivity to people's lives. This means everyone is looking to get things done fast and efficiently. This essay will talk about the good and bad sides of sending messages by phone and using cell phones. I want to begin by saying that text is the best way to share our message with someone. It will stay on your phone until you have time to look at it, so if the person is busy now, they won't miss the important information. Also, texting doesn't show emotions which makes it simpler for us to say what we need without being scared or nervous. Additionally, text messages give clear information; like when you need an address, it stays clearly in your phone and there’s no need to call back asking again for details.

But, there are some downsides to text messages. They don't work well in certain situations, like emergencies or sudden events. So, people can use the phone and call someone directly for these kinds of things because it is quicker than sending a text message.

In conclusion, many people like to send messages because they think it is easier and quicker than making a call. Also, sending messages does not involve emotions, which can be very important when you need to share certain types of information. But calls are also useful when we are in an urgent situation because they make sure that the other person gets the message right away.
