Topic: It was predicted that people in the 21st century would have much more free time than in the past. To what extent has this prediction come true?
Model Answer 1:
It was a general prediction that with the advancement of technologies, the workload of humans will get reduced and they will get more free time than in the past. However, this technological advancement has made life even more hectic and busy. So, the prediction that people of the 21st century would have much more free time than in the past is inaccurate.
The 21st century is known as the technological century with new developments happening at a faster pace. This has made a great change in the lifestyle of the people. People tend to get involved in multi activities rather than spending time free. Rather it would be accurate to say that the increasing technologies have made people even busier. The world has become even more competitive and people are working day and night to secure their place in the advancing competition. Globalization has made the companies and industries work 24x7 and hence the involvement of the workforce is also round the clock. With the need to attain more advances and profits, some workers have to give their extra time to meet the deadline and complete their products.
In all this busy schedule, their lifestyle has changed. There is no doubt that the advancement of technologies has made the daily chore done more easily with just a tap of your finger. But this hasn’t contributed much to providing them with some free time. According to one of the studies of the University of California, the technological era has made the life of people busier by 40% than it was 2 years back. This increasing work schedule has left people with very little time to spend with their families and go out on a vacation with them. Even a majority of people hardly get time from their busy schedule to look out for their fitness.
So, in conclusion, it is clear that the 21st century has made the life of the people busier than in the past. People tend to get involved in more extra activities than finding some free time for themselves. There is an alarming need for people to stop working as a machine themselves and find time for themselves.

Model Answer 2:
The 21st century has not only given new machines and technologies to the world but has also made people machine themselves. People today are working restlessly like machines and hence the claim that people in the 21st century would have much more free time than in the past is absolutely wrong.
For every single daily chore we have got machines, be it for washing clothes, cooking a meal, transportation, and even the basic utilities like water, sanitation, and food, all are just one tap away from us. But still, people are not free and cannot find time for themselves and their families. There are several reasons for such busy schedules. One of the reasons why people are busier in the 21st century is that they have become more competitive than before. With each day, people are in a continuous race of performing better than their colleagues and opponents and proving themselves. There are a lot of people who would dedicate extra time to their work apart from the prescribed working schedule. Another reason why people find it free is that they have become more inquisitive and they have a burning desire to learn new skills and keep adding on new things to their skills and caliber. With the increase in globalization, there are a lot of people who are interested in learning new languages, software, and technologies to keep them up to date and pace with the increasing advancement of the world. Another reason for the people in the 21st century being busy is the increasing globalization of the world. The globalized world has evolved with new technologies and this has increased the demands for new industries and companies. With the increasing demand, the workload of these industries has become fourfold and hence people have to work round the clock to fulfill these demands. Offices are working 24*7 to fulfill the forthcoming demands and workers have to work different shifts.
All these facts mentioned above point out to one that people today have become busier than in the past. They are more involved in new skills and jobs that they hardly find time for themselves and their families, even their vacations are only office trips. Hence, the correct statement is that the 21st century has made people even busier than before.
Model Answer 3:
I completely disagree with the fact that the 21st century has made people freer than before. No matter how advanced we have become as compared to the past and how much we have evolved, the work and the work pressure have increased even more than in the past. With the advancement of new technologies and machines, people have become busier than in the past.
However, there is no denying that the people in the past were busy with a lot of work since they lack the new technologies and machines that today, but if we look at the comparison, we find that the people in the 21st century are even busier. For example, in the agricultural sector, in the past, we didn't have advanced crop varieties, fertilizers, harvesters, and many machines. The farmers used to work very hard to make their crops successful. Since they lack the new machines, they have to work manually a lot. But in today’s century, we are equipped with advanced machines which have made our tasks easier but it hasn’t kept us from being busier. Now in the 21st century, the cropping pattern has changed with a lot of factors, as the soil today has lost its nutritional values, climate changes are highly variable and synthesis of the new fertilizers and pesticides, and besides these things, the high demands of the market with the increasing population, the farmers have to work exceptionally hard to meet these demands and earn just meager profits. These factors have made them even busier than in the past. Similarly in the other sectors also, the demand has increased and with the changing lifestyles and natural environmental conditions, people have to work extra hard day and night to keep pace with the changing world. Globalization has become a thing of the 21st century which was not the case before. In all these conditions, it becomes very hard for people to find time to be free.
Though the advancing machines and technologies have made our tasks way easier but have made our life even busier. There is no denying that the people in the past were busy, but this fact cannot be denied that the people in the 21st century are way busier than in the past.
