Part-time jobs have become a new buzz from the twentieth century. With the growing technology and facilities for comfort, people are inclined towards making use of them. This has resulted in extra expenses that sometimes the guardians are not willing to provide to their children. The students then tend to take up other means of income to sustain their miscellaneous needs. Part-time jobs top the list of activities that students take up to earn an extra bit of cash. Though, part-time jobs are a source of earning just for fulfilling materialistic needs for some students, for the rest of the students it is a secondary means of survival. The money earned through part-time jobs is used to fund college fees by international students. With more and more students opting to go abroad for studies, the expenses increase, and it often becomes difficult for students to sustain. Many students opt for student loans which they repay by the income earned by working part-time. Thus, they become independent and bold with their decisions. Part-time jobs make the students work harder than just living a normal university student life. This way they become mature and responsible. Students can be seen working in restaurants and libraries as part-time workers after college hours. Part-time jobs instil in the students a deep sense of independence and rational decision-making capability. Students get a very good multi-tasking ability with the help of part-time jobs. They learn to have an adequate work-life balance by understanding the importance of earning yourself and also simultaneously handling studies and giving justice to both tasks. According to a recent study, about 68% of students all over the world opt for part-time jobs during their higher education period. Part-time jobs have now become acceptable and common all over the world. Students in countries like India did not opt for part-time jobs earlier as it was not prevalent in the country and parents did not allow the students to work in stores or other restaurants for money. Parents often think that the children who earn while studying get distracted by the idea of money and may take up wrong habits in life. They feel that students must only study and not think of earning during their college days as it makes them greedy and desperate to earn more money. Students who do not have any financial problems usually tend to spend their money that was earned from part-time jobs on unnecessary things like expensive clothes and at expensive restaurants. Students who are doing part-time jobs often face various mental and physical health problems due to the extensive workload. They become victims of depression and anxiety and often end up scoring badly in exams or college due to the wrong management of their part-time job and college studies. But on the other hand, some students learn to thrive under pressure and develop skills of management and stress handling. But as some of the part-time jobs have employers who exploit these young students, there is often a chance of students becoming demotivated and troubled due to lower pay and longer working hours. International students face problems in finding and pursuing part-time jobs due to various barriers like cultural and language barriers. Also, students have to face inequality in the pay ratio and work ethics. Thus it becomes very important for the students to have a strong mindset to tackle these situations. But students doing part-time jobs do a lot of networking and gain resourceful contacts. Thus, part-time jobs have certainly disadvantages associated with them if not understood and done correctly by the full-time students.
