The Internet has become an inseparable part of our lives. It provides information, entertainment, and a means of communication. It can also be a place of learning and exploration for children. However, with great power comes great responsibility, and parents must take precautions to ensure that their children use the Internet safely and responsibly. According to a Pew Research Center survey, 95% of American teenagers have access to a smartphone, and 45% are online "almost constantly." With such high rates of digital media use, it's critical for parents to be aware of the potential dangers and take precautions to protect their children.

There are several reasons why parents may want to limit their children's media consumption. Like: Sleep issues - Children who spend more time on social media and sleep with cell phones in their bedrooms are more likely to have sleeping problems. Screen time (especially bright light) and engaging material from screens can cause sleep to be disrupted or delayed, which has a negative impact on learning. Heavy Internet users are more likely to develop symptoms of internet addiction, such as feeling anxious or depressed when not connected to the internet. Spending too much time in front of a screen can lead to a sedentary lifestyle, which can lead to obesity.

Many children and teenagers frequently use entertainment media while doing other tasks, such as homework. Multitasking has the potential to be detrimental to education.

When children and teenagers use the internet, they may be subjected to cyberbullying. Cyberbullying can have negative long-term and short-term consequences for both the bully and the target. So, the children instead of spending more time in front of internet should be attentive to their academics and should foster themselves in wandering the outer world which is far more wide than the social media. Joining the sports clubs or engaging in social works can assist them in cultivating their growth of minds. 

Also, heavy usage of internet is disadvantageous for both the minds and bodies of a children. Sitting in front of the screen can cause a detrimental effect for the eyes of the children, and therefore, many of them starts wearing spectacles at a very young age. The parents should take part to sit and discuss about the current affairs with their children to keep them updated with what is happening around all the corners of the world. This is because youngsters who spend too much time online have a variety of harmful effects. Limiting the length of time will help kids have a more normal upbringing and will be advantageous in the long run. Social media posts by teenagers frequently show harmful behaviours like substance misuse, promiscuity, self-harm, and eating problems. The onset of such behaviours in teens is correlated with their exposure to media that promotes or depicts alcohol, cigarettes, or sexual behaviour.

Many parents are concerned about the content their children are consuming. Numerous pornography sites, dating websites and apps where children and teens can be exposed to harmful content as well as potential online predators. Another source of concern for parents is how time-consuming Internet use can be.
