Numbers IELTS Speaking Part 1

Answer: In my tenth-grade math class, I was a novice. I had to do it even though I didn't enjoy it in order to pass the tests. I was good at memorising numbers even in grade 12, but with effort and repetition, I became fluent in them. I used to practise math and accounting every day using a variety of books, and as a result, I became familiar with many categories of sums from various publications. Due to my educational background, I am now more interested in financial management accounting, but I still have a solid grasp of numbers. I enjoy the assignments my superiors provide me.

I had good exposure to math and accounting during my first two years of college, and I am confident that as I gain experience, I will continue to improve.

Vocabulary:

• repetition: practising or attempting to do something again and again

Answer: My educational stream requires me to use numbers on a daily basis. Due to repeated practise and years of experience, I have mastered several different ways to solve a sum. However, I had a fear of maths during my school days. Maths seemed to me the most difficult subject out of all the subjects. 

However, now I have gained confidence due to repeated exposure to mathematical problems and on-job experiences. I’m a financial content writer, thus, my job role requires me to play with numbers and represent them in several different formats. However, on a general and daily life basis, there is a necessity for individuals to be aware of mathematics and the basics as they play key roles in one’s life.

Answer: I am reasonably good at remembering numbers. There was a period while I was in school when I couldn't remember some crucial numerical figures associated with my subjects. Prior to my tests in algebra and accounting, I used to go blank. I also made an effort to learn basic math, although I had a lot of trouble with it. I made every effort to learn the phone numbers of my family members as well. For a brief period of time, it can seem impossible for me to remember them. I sincerely wish I could remember things after going through it once.

• reasonably- to have decent or average knowledge about something
• crucial: a critical approach

Answer: Since I am not superstitious, I am not particularly fascinated by numbers. Each number in Indian mythology is said to represent one thing or another. I am a rationalist, so logic and facts are important to me. When people believe in all these superstitions, I think they're just being traditionalists. Good things happen to those who wait, thus relying just on statistics won't improve anyone's future. The fact that my college roll number is 5, which is the fifth, appeals to me the most. I also have a very unlucky number, like 13, that whenever I choose, gives me extremely bad luck. I was born in March, so if I had to pick a single-digit number at random, I would go with 3.
