The Number of People Being Sent To Prison Is Increasing Year on Year IELTS Writing Task 2 consists of three sample answers provided below. The crime levels nowadays are increasing at no bounds, thus, the number of people ending up in prison are exceeding. Some people claim that prison is the most vital form of punishment, others believe that community service should be a part of the punishment. According to me, community service for prisoners will benefit them as well as society. Prison however, keeps them isolated and far away from real life. They are locked away so that they can think about crimes they have committed and can repent for their actions. Community service on the other hand keeps the prisoner busy and they might not feel they are not contributing. It is best to keep prisoners indulged in some work instead of keeping locked up as it can lead to psychological issues. Moreover numerous community services need to be completed but the workforce is lacking. All these can be completed by assigning community service jobs to prisoners. I strongly believe that community service is the right form of punishment as it is conducive for both society and prisoners. This practice is mostly prevalent in the United States but is still catching on in India. There are a few opportunities in India for community services in India, however, if community services are favored for the prisoners, the opportunities might increase.

The crime in India is increasing at an exceeding rate. Not just in India, but it is spiking at no bounds across the globe. Some believe that offenders must be imprisoned, however, others believe in the practice of community service. Community service is a popular practice in the USA. However, it is still catching on in India. India believes that imprisonment, life sentences etc., are the right form of justice. Confining and isolating all those who have committed wrong is the right form of punishing the offenders.

On the other hand if the prisoners are taught how to act or behave and also are assigned public works like collecting litter, cleaning up alleys, etc, they can benefit a lot from such works. It is also the best way to give back to society. Keeping the prisoners locked up inside a cell can lead to several psychological or mental issues. They will also stay away from real life which is believed to be the hardest form of punishment. Moreover, it requires a lot of money to send a person to jail, as the security and food costs increase. It also further leads to overcrowding problems in jail. All these costs are far higher than sending the prisoners for community service. I strongly believe that offenders must be sent for community services instead of imprisonment, as it is the best way to give back to society.

Crime is a serious issue across the globe and almost all countries are dealing with this pressing issue. People have a divided opinion about imprisonment and community service. Some believe that imprisonment can mitigate crime, however, some are of the opinion that offenders must be assigned some community services. Almost 80 percent of the people in India still believe that imprisonment is the best form of punishment. Community service on the other hand is a popular practice across several countries across the globe. In India the practice is still catching on. This essay will elaborate on both the points. It is believed that imprisonment is the hardest form of punishment. It also leads many prisoners to suffer from mental, and psychological issues. It can also be a way to dissuade crime as people fear imprisonment. Community service on the other hand can help educate the offenders, and also indulge in useful work while giving back to society. It does have some drawbacks though, as sometimes community services could be as long and end up being unreasonable. Also, prisoners might also re-offend sometimes, even after doing all the forms of community services. I believe community service alone cannot eradicate or mitigate the crime rate. Offenders do need some brutal punishments that can cause the fear of not committing the crime again. Thus, I believe that imprisonment is the best way to handle the crime and the exceeding crime rates.
