Model Answer 2

The given line graph represents the total number of books read by both genders – men and women – at Burnaby Public Library between the years 2011 and 2014. The x-axis represents the years whereas the y-axis shows the number of books read by both sexes.

Between the years 2011 and 2012, the number of books read by women was twice as much as that of men. The men read about 3,000 books in 2011 which increased slightly to reach 4,000 books in 2012. On the other hand, the women read only 5,000 books in 2011 which increased moderately to about 8,000 books in 2012.

However, the total number of books read by men increased by 6,000 between the years 2012 and 2013. This is comparatively a lot higher than the number of books read by women during the same period. The total number of books read by the women witnessed only a moderate increase of around 2,000. Thus, the men and women read nearly 4,000 and 8,000 books, respectively in 2012. However, by 2013, both sexes had managed to read 10,000 books in total.

In the following year (2013 – 2014), the number of books read by men kept on increasing. The total number of books read by men increased from 10,000 books in 2013 to nearly 14,000 books in 2014. In contrast, the number of books read by women decreased by a significant figure. It declined from 10,000 books in 2013 to only 8,000 books in 2014.

In conclusion, it can be said that in general, the total number of books read by the women at Burnaby Public Library is comparatively higher. This indicates that the men have less interest in reading books. However, the interest of men in reading books rose sharply between the years 2012 and 2013. On the other hand, the interest of women in reading books decreased significantly between the years 2013 and 2014.

Model Answer 3

The given diagram shows two line graphs that represent the reading habits of both men and women at Burnaby Public Library. It illustrates the total number of books read by either sex during a period of 3 years (2011 – 2014). The x-axis shows the years whereas the y-axis shows the total number of books read by men and women.

In general, an upward trend is observed regarding the reading habits of men. Initially, between the years 2011 and 2012, a slight increase in the reading habits of the men is observed. The men read nearly 3,000 books in 2011 which increased to 4,000 books in 2012. However, in the following year (2012 – 2013), the number of books read by men increased at a swift rate and reached a peak of 10,000 books. Again, between the years 2013 and 2014, the total books read by the men showed a moderate increase by about 4,000 – from 10,000 books in 2013 to around 14,000 books in 2014.

In the case of women, an upward trend is observed during the first two years – 2011 – 2012 and 2012 – 2013. It initially increased at a moderate rate – from 5,000 books to 8,000 books – between the years 2011 and 2012. This was followed by a slow rate of increase in the number of books read by women – from 8,000 books in 2012 to around 10,000 books in 2013. However, in the succeeding year (2013 – 2014), a declining trend in the number of books read by women was observed. The total number of books read by women decreased moderately from 10,000 books in 2013 to around 8,000 books in 2014.

In conclusion, it can be said that in comparison to women, men, in general, have less interest in reading books. This is proved by the fact that, in total, the number of books read by women is significantly higher than that men. However, the interest of men in reading books rose considerably between the years 2012 and 2013. On the other hand, a declining interest in reading books was observed among women between the years 2013 and 2014.
