Topic: Nowadays children spend more time playing computer games than doing sports. Why is it happening? Does it have a positive or negative effect on their development?

Band 7.5 IELTS Essay

As a result of technical breakthroughs, computers are now widely used. Nowadays, the majority of kids would rather play computer games than participate in physical activities like sports. The causes of this occurrence are varied. Computer games are detrimental to kids' development, in my opinion, especially if they replace outside sports.

In the present era, parents have less time for their children because of their busy schedules. As a result, kids have less access to outdoor recreation and are more likely to engage in online gaming. To keep their kids occupied while they are away, they have given them every technological device available. Computer games are also compulsive because there are many levels to complete and points to earn. Second, children do not have enough time to play outside. Mainly because they spend approximately 8 hours a day in school and an additional 3 to 4 hours in extracurricular activities. Constantly staring at a screen could have a negative effect on a child's personality. For instance, playing violent video games may make them aggressive and impatient. Many enjoyable games, like "PUBG," encourage players to hit and kill a random, unknown player who is playing from an undisclosed location. These violent video games encourage juvenile criminal behaviour. Additionally, too much time spent in front of digital devices might be bad for a child's health. For instance, it may impair vision, lead to headaches, or induce sleeplessness. In other words, because there are fewer outdoor playgrounds nearby, kids are spending more time playing on computers. The addictiveness of video games and a lack of parental monitoring are other variables influencing this development. Unfortunately, children who play video games for extended periods of time have negative effects on their health and academic performance. They might even develop criminal tendencies as a result of it.

Children's physical and psychological development throughout the first years of life is greatly influenced by physical activity. But as outdoor games have been supplanted by indoor ones as a result of urbanisation and modernity, the current generation is now more likely to become lazy. This, in my opinion, is a bad development that interferes with children's ability to grow physically and mentally. First of all, urbanisation led to the disappearance of public playgrounds in cities and towns.

Cities are more crowded as a result of the construction of all those housing complexes and shopping malls. Hence, making it impossible for kids to play outdoor sports like football or cricket. Parents are compelled to keep their kids indoors because engaging in such games in confined spaces disturbs those who live in apartments. Concerns have also been raised regarding children's safety. Parents are growing more cautious about letting their kids play outside. They give their kids electronic games, computers, and smartphones as a result, in order to keep them occupied indoors. Children are becoming less interested in the advantages of playing outside as a result. Unfortunately, this has an impact on their intellectual and physical development. Children's eyesight can be harmed by spending a lot of time in front of a computer or gaming console, and it can also lead to obesity. Studies have indicated that exercise promotes the growth of cognitive skills including problem-solving and decision-making. Children learn vital life lessons through sports and activities, such as teamwork and how to accept success and failure equally. Children miss out on the chance to learn these lessons in life when they don't participate in sports. To sum up, while video games may occupy kids for hours on end, they offer little to promote their general growth. Therefore, I firmly believe that playing computer games for an excessive amount of time can be really bad for the next generation.

Band 8.5 IELTS Essay

It is evident that the younger generation prefers playing video games than participating in outdoor sports. Urbanisation and modernization are both tenable explanations for this manoeuvre. Additionally, it is a bad growth since it impedes the general development of adolescents. The space available for playgrounds is fewer in modern communities, to start with. This is because land that was formerly designated for public parks is now being used to build homes and commercial complexes.

Due to the population's relentless growth. As a result, young people are forced to play video games. The fact that both parents are wage workers in this hostile atmosphere is a secondary explanation. They are unable to spend enough time with their offspring to give them the opportunity to play video games as a result. Therefore, the lack of playgrounds and parents' busy schedules may be to blame for youngsters spending the majority of their time playing video games. This is a bad development because playing virtual games does not help you build your cognitive or practical skills. In other words, playing outside encourages youngsters to develop a variety of abilities, including teamwork, leadership, and many others. However, it is undesirable that they become hostile and isolated from society as a result of playing video games. An example of this is a survey published in the Times of India. It revealed a significant increase in aggressiveness in today's generation compared to past generations. As a result, I would say that this is a bad development when taking into account the aforementioned issues. To sum up, the lack of space and parents' hectic schedules are major factors why the current generation spends the majority of their time playing video games. Furthermore, it is a bad development because it hinders the development of crucial life skills and because hostility is one of the main factors. Additionally, it is advised that government actions be taken to motivate kids to participate in outdoor activities.
