Music IELTS Speaking Part 1

Music IELTS Speaking part 1 is a speaking topic. The IELTS speaking sample answer of Music IELTS Speaking part 1 focuses on a few questions. Some of them are What music do you like, when do you listen to music, what effect music has on people, and so on. This topic: Music IELTS speaking part 1 is available in the practice test book of Easy Cue cards for IELTS. Candidates will engage in a general conversation about home, education, work, family, academics, and other topics of interest. 

IELTS Speaking part 1 requires candidates to introduce themselves to the examiner. The part assesses whether the candidate has the ability to communicate, state opinions, and give information on everyday topics or experiences. IELTS speaking is calculated in four criteria: fluency and coherence, lexical resource, grammatical range and accuracy, and pronunciation. Candidates can check IELTS Speaking Practice Papers for better preparation.  A brief answer may be perceived by the interviewer as too short, in which case he will ask "why" or "why not" to enlarge the answer.

Topic: Music IELTS Speaking part 1

Question 1: Do you like music?

Answer: I love to listen to music. Music keeps me away from stress and depression. It is an aid to the odds occurring in life. Music helps me relax and detox myself from everyday hassle. 

Vocabulary:

  • Odds: the chances or likelihood of something happening or being the case.
  • Aid: help, typically of a practical nature.
  • Detox: get rid of

Question 2: What kind of music do you like?

Answer: I do not have any specific genre that I like to listen to. All kinds of music thrill me if it is catchy, has a tempting tune, and has good lyrics. Sometimes it also depends on my mood and situation too. I listen to EDM or English bands or new generation Bollywood songs when I am in a good mood. Sometimes I listen to soft songs. I too like party music with nice beats on any party occasion. Sometimes travel music also makes me nostalgic.

Vocabulary:

  • Genre: a style or category of art, music, or literature..
  • Tempting: appealing to or attracting someone, even if wrong or unwise.

Question 3: Do you think music has an effect on people's lives?

Answer: Yes, I do believe that music has a drastic effect on people’s lives. It reduces stress and motivates a person in some way or the other. Music heals pain. It gives you back old good memories. The lyrics of certain songs of movies like Border, Kesari, URI are so beautiful that they make an impact on the viewer's life. Listening to a song during sad times might heal bad memories. 

Vocabulary:

  • Heal: cause (a wound, injury, or person) to become sound or healthy again.
  • Drastic: a strong or far-reaching effect

Question 4: When do you like listening to music?

Answer: There is no fixed time for me to listen to music. I listen to music whenever I am feeling low or depressed. It helps me switch my mood. Sometimes I play music loudly in my home theatre when I cook. Most of the time, I listen to music while traveling.

  • Switch: change or swap

Question 5: What type of music did you like when you were young?

Answer: When I was young, I had no specific taste for music. I used to listen to the music I heard on TV channels and radio. I used to listen to singers like Udit Narayan, Kumar Sanu, Sonu Nigam, SP Balasubramaniam who were famous singers during my childhood. Whenever I get time to watch TV, I switch on some music channels to hear their melodious songs.

Question 6: What kind of music is popular in your country?

Answer: I live in India and people mostly like Bollywood Hindi songs. We have a variety of songs except for Bollywood due to the diversity of languages. People in West Bengal like the songs of Rabindranath Tagore, Hemanta Mukherjee, and Shreya Ghoshal. People in Punjab and Delhi like Sunidhi Chauhan, Arijit Singh, Visual Sekhar, KK, and many more, but irrespective of all the diversities you will see Indians dancing on Bollywood Hindi songs irrespective of the state they belong to. So there are many kinds of music that are popular but the most popular is Hindi Bollywood songs.

Question 7: Do you play musical instruments?

Answer: Yes, I did play musical instruments. When I was in class Vi, I took synthesizer as my co-curricular activity. Although I do not play it now anymore, I still remember the chords and notations of the instrument. I also tried to play guitar in 12th standard but couldn't continue due to exam pressures. I am more of an audience to the music.

  • Notations: a series or system of written symbols used to represent numbers, amounts, or elements in something such as music or mathematics.

Question 8: Which is your favorite musical instrument?

Answer: I played the synthesizer and it is My favorite musical instrument. I have one which I played in my childhood. I also like guitar, Ukulele, and Violin.

Vocabulary:

  • Synthesizer: an electronic musical instrument, typically operated by a keyboard, producing a wide variety of sounds by generating and combining signals of different frequencies.

Question 9: How do you listen to music?

Answer: I use my Bluetooth earphones to listen to music. I also play it loud on my home theatre speaker to enjoy it with my family and friends. Sometimes I also play music on my television.

Question 10: Do you like to sing along your favorite songs?

Answer: The best thing about music is one can sing along. I love humming while I am listening to my favorite music. I usually put on my earphones and start humming along with them. Although my voice isn't great I sing when no one's around.

Question 11: Is live music popular in your country?

Answer: Concerts are popular in every country. In India also, people are crazy about concerts. Before the growth of covid-19, I used to attend live shows of famous singers and musicians in my college fest. Live music is very popular in India with not only young people but people of all age groups.

Question 12: Do you wish you could play any musical instrument?

Answer: I would love to learn and play violin. It is one of the most melodious instruments. I used to watch live orchestras which mostly consisted of violin artists and the choir mesmerized me with their songs played by violin and that's how I fell in love with that instrument. For playing it you need to hold the chords properly with your left hand and then use the bow stick and move above the strings to play it.

  • Mesmerized: capture the complete attention of (someone); transfix.

Question 13: Is your music taste varied?

Answer: I would say that my music taste is not varied. I like songs with good lyrics and tunes. if you insist on a genre, I would go with metal. I visited a hard rock café once and had a very bad experience.

  • Metal songs: Heavy metal is a loud, aggressive style of rock music
