- Are there many museums in your hometown?
Answer: Yes, there are quite a few. Since I am very much inquisitive about museums, and mainly because I am a History student. I am well aware of the ones in my hometown. Some of them can even be comparable to the finest ones from the country, if not the world itself.

Oh yes! Absolutely! This is particularly important for those who want to know about the culture and tradition in detail. Not just our tradition, museums are great to learn how the city has evolved over the years. Moreover, there are a plethora of museums catering to the different types of interests of various tourists and travelers.

Yes, plenty of times. I was one of those nerdy kids who always wanted to do some quiet activity different from her fellow companions. - Did you go to any museum when you were a child?
Yes absolutely! Museums were always a vital part of the extra-curricular school outdoor activities. Every year we used to visit different kinds of museums in my hometown. It was a graded activity and compulsory. Even outside the ones arranged by the school, I used to visit museums quite often with my parents. Unlike a lot of kids my age, I felt very elevated while visiting museums since my childhood.

- Do you think museums are important?
Undoubtedly museums are significant in terms of knowing the socio-cultural, religious and political history of one place. Museums are like a time capsule, a treasure trove filled with audio-visual and written archival materials related to the history of that very place or a particular subject. Sure one can gather this knowledge from books or the internet also but there is nothing comparable to actually walking down the history lane, witnessing the recorded history with our own eyes. It’s like seeing history unfolding before your own eyes.

- Do you think it’s suitable for museums to sell things to visitors?
Honestly, I don’t find anything problematic about this. Most of these museums do not require any entry fee and even if that’s the case, the fees are quite insignificant. It takes a certain amount of funding to maintain the glorious status of the museums, to manage everything neatly and cleanly. Since Government funding is quite scanty and uncertain, revenue gathered from the souvenir shops can be of great help. Besides this is convenient for the foreign tourists wishing to buy a memento related to that particular museum.

- When was the last time you visited a museum?
I used to visit museums at least thrice a year but that is way before the pandemic. Indian Museum and Victoria Memorial Hall are my two last visited museums. I paid a visit to both of them in 2019, right before the worldwide pandemic hit us. Now that the pandemic is slowly residing, I am eagerly looking forward to more such visits.
- Are there many museums in your country?
There are significantly quite a lot. India is a diverse country housing people from different cultural, social, religious traditions, and ethnicity. Past invasions from the outsiders up until the Colonial Era, also provided India with rich and manifold history which resulted in the establishment of museums of various kinds in almost every state. Beginning from simply historical ones the range includes art, textile, jewellery, war remnants, biographical, transport, and many more.

- Do you think museums are useful for visitors?
I definitely think so. A lot of people may argue that they are simply a tourist attraction and the internet is a quicker way to gain information but for me, it is always the museums. There is nothing more appealing than actually seeing recorded history with one’s own eyes. We can know about famous places from the internet but we surely want to visit those places on our own. It’s similar to the museum. Besides, it’s a great place to buy a memento associated with that particular place’s history.

- Do you often visit museums?
Yes, all the time. I can go to a museum almost once a month if I can. Generally, famous museums often become crowded during the weekends. So, I try to avoid those days and prefer to visit during the weekdays. That way I can spend the time there peacefully and without any rush. This is particularly important if I happen to visit an art museum or architectural one.

- Did you go to any museum when you were a child?
I was one of those kids who didn’t have any issue spending time quietly. I have always remained fond of history, art, and books. Solitary museum visits were, still are, surprisingly my favorites. If I remember correctly, the Indian Museum at Kolkata was the very first museum I visited with my father. I can still remember how excited I was to see all the gorgeous displays of monuments and dinosaur fossils.
