Most Countries Do Not Recycle Their Waste IELTS Writing Task 2

The major reason behind nations not adapting to the recycling processes is the consideration that it is a waste of time and money. The recycling processes involves several necessary measures that require countries and organisations to employ huge amount of time and money. Furthermore, it also requires a huge amount of investments on labour and relevant aspects. However, I believe there is a necessity to collect wastes from around the corners of places which are mostly associated with aluminium cans glass, and paper pieces in order to ensure that these are recycled properly. The product that is a result of this recycling process requires a lot of time prior to it is fully-developed. It requires huge amount of resources and further cleaning, filtering and other relevant processes are ensured. The necessary resources that are required to ensure the process of recycling are; electricity, use of water, appropriate machineries, etc. These resources require a lot of investments. 

In addition, there are a number of nations that are in developmental phases and are yet to adapt to the advanced technologies. These nations lack machineries or technologies that would suggest the processes of recycling, benefits of recycling and the product that is an outcome of all these processes.

Moreover, absence of modern technologies leads to lack of training of employees that will aid to recycling waste materials. Perhaps, majorly organisations and countries lack funds in order to ship materials which is also a challenging factor. Thus, this is one of the liable reasons why waste management and recycling processes are not attempted in several nations. 

People are encouraged and motivated to contribute to waste recycling. Governments should take steps to raise awareness of the negative environmental impact of undegraded waste. Such substances can cause many problems and lead to soil and water pollution that can have adverse effects on humans. Conducting awareness campaigns to educate people about the waste collection and recycling process can also help. Waste recycling is essential for countries to reduce the environmental damage caused by waste.

One of the main factors that affect recycling of waste is its expense. Recycling is expensive. Government will have to spend a lot of money to employ people for collecting waste materials. Government will also have to spend money on setting up large trash bins in all the households and pay people for transferring them. The reprocessing and reserving of such waste materials will also require huge space. Overall, the government will have to incur a lot of expenses to fulfill all these criteria.

However, people can be encouraged to recycle waste in many ways. Creating awareness regarding benefits of recycling is one of the best ways. The lack of knowledge of people about recycling stops them from recycling. People need to be informed about ways of recycling waste materials. An efficient way of creating awareness is by adding lessons in high school, informing children about the benefits of recycling waste materials. College students can form groups and visit buildings to make people aware of the advantages of recycling by performing various activities such as plays, skits, poetry etc. Community people can be encouraged to recycle and help the environment by running campaigns in Newspapers, TV, Radio, billboards etc. Non-government organizations can set up recycling drives and ask and encourage people to volunteer.

If people are encouraged to recycle and their interest in recycling waste products increases, there will also be an increase in recycling rate. This increase in recycling rate will benefit all the states.

There are various reasons people don’t recycle. The main reason people don’t recycle is because they don’t want to put in the extra effort. Recycling is time consuming. There are many places that don’t have facilities like pick-up trucks. So recycling of waste products becomes inconvenient.

Lack of space also becomes an issue for many people. When there is little space to store garbage bins, the trash becomes an eyesore for people as people don’t want to see garbage. People also avoid recycling as they think it does not make a difference. It is also a very difficult activity as there are so many steps for recycling products.

Many people feel that recycling consumes a lot of energy. Fuel is needed to transport waste in trucks to the recycling grounds. There are times when trash disposal is cheaper than the cost of recycling. People lack the knowledge that the benefits of recycling waste products make up for the cost difference. There was a survey in the UK that proved that by avoiding primary material production, there was a save in 18 million tonnes of carbon dioxide due to recycling of paper, aluminum, plastic and glass.

Government should encourage people to recycle. People should be made aware of the benefits of recycling. To motivate people to recycle, there should be an economic incentive. A study claims that to increase recycling rates, offering rewards is a great step. Dedicating a day to recycling can also help. America has America Recycles Day (ARD) to encourage people to recycle.

In conclusion, there are many reasons people don’t recycle but proper encouragement can motivate them to do so as recycling is the need of the hour.
