Band 8 IELTS Essay

The tourism industry has seen an unprecedented boost in recent years. A major part of it being international tourism. People travel to witness foreign cultures and ways of life. With the increasing flow of foreign tourists, a negative attitude against foreign tourists has been found to grow among local inhabitants of the most famous tourist destinations. The reasons for this sense of harm are not far-fetched either.

It has been widely noticed that international tourists tend to damage the natural surroundings. In absence of proper authority, people throw rubbish all around and thus destroy the beauty and serenity of the place. Litter spread all around not only disturbs the inhabitants but also leads to soil, water, and air contamination. Apart from this international tourists are often accused of being indifferent to local traditions, faiths, and beliefs. On many occasions, people from western countries visiting countries like India, undermine the local customs and traditions. Sometimes even unintentionally. These actions irritate and lead to resentment among the local population.

The tourism industry brings huge sums of revenue and investment to the country and thus helps in its development. Thus international tourism needs to be encouraged and issues concerning the locals must be dealt with by the concerned authority. There should be extensive awareness campaigns, making the people aware of how foreign tourists not only bring more business to locals when they stay and buy from them but also create a whole new tourism industry employing a large population.

Tourists also need to be made more considerate towards actually understanding and respecting the local beliefs and culture. Also, proper guidelines should be maintained regarding waste disposal and management.

In conclusion, I believe that international tourism is a big boon to the developing country’s economies. At the same time, respecting the local inhabitants’ concerns and acting accordingly is also important. Government involvement and proper regulation of international tourists are also very crucial in achieving that goal. More tourist destinations need to be developed and proper maintenance of the existing ones should be done.

Band 6 IELTS Essay

Humans have been curious since the beginning of time. This curiosity has led to several discoveries making our lives easier. Travelling has been the most efficient way of collecting knowledge and information from ancient times. But today people more often travel to have fun and relax. Tourism has seen massive growth in the past few decades. With international tourism being a major part of it. It has become an industry catering to the needs of tourists and providing them with what they come for. But like curiosity, opposition to change has also been a major part of human history.

With increasing international tourists traveling to rather untouched parts of the world, residents of those areas have started to raise concerns about the ill effects such increased exposure. Some of the major reasons for opposition include the indifferent nature of the tourists towards the beliefs and traditions. Several incidents where the local practices have been mocked by the tourists have been reported. On the other hand, some tourists genuinely connect to the traditions.

International tourism comes with its benefits too. With the influx of foreign tourists, businesses bloom in tourist destinations. Commodities ranging from food, stay, and other necessities find an increased demand. Also, it provides a great market for local products and the souvenir market. It helps develop the entire market. Governments not only extract the amount for the upkeep of monuments, they even make a profit from selling tickets and other commodities. Needless to say, it employs people including guides, tour planners, hotels, local artisans, and other businesses. International Tourism also helps in the exchange of ideas and thoughts.

In conclusion, I believe that international tourism has more benefits than harm. People need to be provided information on how international tourism is important for not only the growth of the local community but of the entire country as a whole. Governments also need to take adequate care that the local lifestyle is not affected due to tourist interference. Enforcing measures that help maintain the balance is important.

Band 7.5 IELTS Essay

It is a common belief among people that international tourism has proven to have several adverse effects on the countries. Reasons behind this belief are plenty. They all cannot be neglected though they can be fixed with proper measures. In this essay, we have discussed some of the more pressing issues and certain solutions which if implemented can bring change. Firstly, people believe that international tourism has opened up their countries to foreign agencies who do not understand how society works in their country.

Secondly, as most tourists do not feel a sense of belonging to the place they are visiting, they do not consider it their responsibility to preserve and protect the uniqueness and serenity of the place. People also complain about the extra work which needs to be done to restore the damages made by tourists. If we keep these points aside, international tourism provides an opportunity for people from different countries to share their knowledge and experiences. It acts as a conduit for people to experience new lifestyles and assimilate what they find best. International tourism has innumerable economic benefits for the country along with the local market. International tourists take with them local artifacts as souvenirs, which help spread the rich heritage of the place to the entire world which was once captive in the boundaries of a country. Not only handicrafts but food recipes, combat techniques, games, and many more things have been spread across the world today which were once picked up by some travelers from far away. Despite its countless benefits the concerns of the people cannot be neglected. But it needs to be understood that it is not every tourist that creates the problem. Governments must take proper steps to check that the social and material integrity of the tourist spots is maintained. Also, massive awareness programs need to be conducted, to remove that inhospitable feeling towards tourists from people’s minds.

In conclusion, I believe that everything depends on perspective. How we look at a scenario makes all the difference. If we wish to look at a problem, we will have one but instead, if we focus on the greater good, it could lead to prosperity and global harmony.
