Media Controls Opinions and Attitudes of Peoples IELTS Writing Task 2 consists of three sample answers provided below. The task requires the candidates to provide a tentative and argumentative answer for the question. The sample answers comprises two parts: Introduction and body. The introduction is a brief description about the topic. The body contains argumentative statements and tentative answers to support the test-taker's perspective. In a world as technologically advanced as ours, any entity that possesses the remote control to control the media. Whether it is the large companies or the government, are within the capacity to influence opinions and attitudes in some way or the other. It is an undeniable fact that the media can be a manipulator with its biased news reports and fallacious advertisements.

Today, the media circles us like a pack of hungry wolves. If you think this source is unreliable, you always have the choice to compare and trust the other sources available.

While this is all reassuring, the endless stream of countless information. By hundreds of sources can often smother us and silence our logical and reasoning abilities. Shaping our mindset and opinions to align with the media reports is what threatens the capability to form our views and think critically today.

Most laymen are not well-versed in all the affairs around the world. This is the most crucial reason for relying on media to deliver hard, cold facts without prejudice and discrimination. But this belief is skewed in a way because there’s always some kind of partiality depending upon who’s running the media house and the agencies. However, this should not deter people from putting their faith in media outlets because like every modern tool, media also has some constructive applications. One cannot deny that media can be operated to create awareness and accountability, spread unity and sow empathy among other things.

The only remedy to this fallacy is if the governing bodies regulate the industries so that there is no longer a monopoly of media ownership. This indicates freedom of the press where even the wealthiest and the government are under scrutiny. And can be criticized if the interests of the public are not met.

Modern days, modern instruments. Media is one of the fastest circulators of events all around the world today alongside social media. One of the reasons for this is the advancement in communication technology which connects people from one country to another around the globe. Although there are undeniable advantages of such a connection, there are just many repercussions. Media is accessible to anyone who has the connection, but the news and information they absorb are not. This is because we can compare, and check the veracity of the data published by a certain source or channel. We cannot determine the facts and the process behind the procurement of such information. Foul play is always a possibility, so are misinterpretations.

The human mind is a fickle thing, so much so that when we are exposed to something for a long period. We tend to accept that as the truth and end up not looking at it from a different perspective. Thus, we become subconsciously biased to a lot of facts. This right here intensifies the need to feed ourselves the correct and decent dose of media daily. Whether it’s in the form of advertisements, newspapers, journals, articles, or TV channels. One should also be mindful of being swayed by the media’s forced opinions, rather, they should apply the news to form their ideas and thoughts on the matter.

I conclude by saying a sheeple mind will only take you so far. Conformity is dangerous in a world like ours today where manipulation is a trend. People need to be more cynical in their approach. Be ready to ask uncomfortable questions, reason and analyze the situation. As well as be cognizant of the fact that not everything they see and listen to is the truth. However, with the realization that they can rationalize and discard the info at their own will. People now recognize their power-wielding authority even if the source of control is out of their hands.

Decision-making ability is at risk in a world of technology and media influence. There are many reasons for this. It has now become more of a compulsive need to read up about certain things to gain some knowledge on the matter or simply to stay updated. It's fashionable to stay on trend and what better way than to keep letting the media shove information down your throats right? This thinking is rather flawed but it is what’s happening today.

The fixation on media and what it represents has got us obsessing over it. When we don’t agree with a source, instead of thinking on our own and forming opinions. We look for other sources that might somewhat agree with our biased opinions. This hampers the need to look at situations objectively and creates conflicts as people refuse to listen to the other side of the story. And miss the opportunity to become a fresh pair of eyes and ears that will contribute a slightly different perspective to the story. This is critical for the growth and development of the human race. And is the need of the hour with the emergence of fraudulent and biased theories. And opinions of the journalists, reporters, depending on the agencies or companies they represent.

The media is controlled by large corporations and governments who use any means necessary. To prevent news that condemns their ideologies and manifestos from getting exposed. This is the reality in most countries but there’s always a silver lining to the horrible realities. With every passing decade, education has helped most old, young adults and teens alike, to develop a conscience. And a resolute mindset that no longer lets them be influenced by mere opinions. Furthermore, they have become vigilant about the information published for the public. To scavenge on by forming their interpretations to unfold the stories untold.
