Band 6 Answer
The maps provided show the changes that occurred in Stokeford village between 1930 and 2010 and how they differed. The village was linked in 1930 by a central road that spanned the River Stoke to the north, as can be seen in the first map. In close proximity to the road, there were a few residences, shops, a post office, and a primary school.
Though the majority of the community was made up of farmlands, there was a large home with gardens in the middle that served as a landmark. By 2010, two roads in the northern portion of the hamlet, which ran parallel to the main road, allowed access to the new residences. Residences had taken the place of farms on the east and stores on the west. With the addition of two parallel units that extended towards the east, the primary school saw a significant expansion. The south and west of the hamlet saw the most growth, followed by the central area, which saw more settlements. The big mansion underwent a transformation into a retirement community with the construction of two wings. And the surrounding garden was almost entirely cut in half. Overall, it is evident that the village underwent a significant change in view throughout this time, becoming more akin to a small town.
Band 6.5 Answer
By comparing the Stokeford village in 2010 to the same area in 1930, the provided maps demonstrate the changes that have occurred. The appearance of the settlement has undergone a number of significant alterations over time. As seen in the first map, the village was connected in 1930 by a central road that crossed the River Stoke to the north.
There were a few houses, some businesses, a post office, and a primary school near the road. There were also more houses in Stokeford in 2010 than there were in 1930, which is another interesting difference. In 1930, agriculture and farming occupied a sizable portion of the Stokeford region. A bridge across the River Stoke was located at the northernmost part of the settlement, along with a few stores and a post office. A sizable residential compound and an elementary school were also present in the village. The village's transition from an agricultural region to a residential one by the year 2010 was complete. A large portion of the market and farming land was used to construct homes. In order to create a larger structure, the primary school was also remodelled. The enormous house and compound were converted into a retirement home. The post office and the bridge remained the same, though.
Band 7 Answer
The maps contrast the building changes and alterations that took place in the village of Stockford between 1930 and 2010. Looking at the maps reveals that the Stockford community had fewer homes and more farmland in 1930. But there had been a tremendous increase in housing after that. The village of Stockford is situated to the east of the River Stoke, as may be seen.
The major road runs parallel to this river, and on both maps, it connects to a bridge on the village's furthest northeast side. This settlement was populated in 1930 with a few dwellings on both sides of the street, two businesses, and a post office on the west side of the street. Additionally, to the east of this settlement was an elementary school, a sizable garden, and a road leading to the bridge. In the earlier map, two sizable farmlands were clearly visible, but they were no longer there in the later one. The primary school, bridge, and post office are all still present on the map from 2010, however, the school building has grown. The stores were demolished, and the garden, which still had many of its trees, was sacrificed so that there would be additional lodging options. A portion of the enormous house's construction was added in order to convert it into a retirement residence. In addition, a surprising number of new homes were constructed on the farmlands and gardens that had previously existed.
