Topic: While many people go to university for academic study, more people should be encouraged to do vocational training because there is a lack of qualified workers such as electricians and plumbers. Do you agree or disagree?

Band 6 IELTS Essay

There is no wonder that education is one of the most crucial constants for human beings to be able to thrive. Without education through kindergarten, junior school, high school, college, and university, a person will not be able to gain knowledge about anything. They will not be able to know the basics, as well as the advanced knowledge. Now, one question that is asked by many people out there is, should students be sent to the university for academic study. Further encouraged to get into vocational training since there is a lack of professionals like electricians and plumbers. Though I am for the university factor, I would like to agree with the second segment. I will explain the same in further lines.

The main reason behind my opting for the second part is, it is necessary for most of the students to learn vocational training as it is a life skill. Most vocational training makes a student’s life easier. It is undoubtedly an important factor that contributes to the ease of living. Vocational training when paired with academic knowledge will result in a deep understanding of a particular subject, or theory. Accordingly, vocational training can help a studnet to expand his/her knowledge and use it in practice life experiences as well. Significantly, this would allow the people to ensure that they are able to enhance greater effectiveness in their professional field. Vocational Education and training typically helps in development of skills of the students hence, ensuring that they are able to find suitable jobs.  Another helpful factor that contributes to vocational training is job prospects. Most companies look for candidates who have hands-on experience with certain tools, or services. Learning vocational training will make more students industry-ready. However, the possibility is many students might not find vocational training suitable for their future. For instance, for the students who want to pursue a profession in medical or teaching profession need strong academic background. Hence, while vocational training needs to be encouraged for those who want to develop their skills in different fields, academic study should be encouraged for those who would remain in the profesison.

There is no doubt that pursuing university-level academic training is a must for most students. But apart from that, there is also the need for vocational training which is lagging behind. Vocational training is a very important aspect that drives the economy and growth of a country. Plumbers, electricians, health workers, manufacturers, construction workers, food services, and more skills are highly in demand.

Today’s market is always on the lookout for candidates who have a knack for practical work. Take for instance the hospitality industry which is thriving. There are plenty of hotels in India which demand food and beverage assistance, chefs, tourism managers, and more. All these are vocational skills that candidates need to know in order to work. The hospitality industry pays a high amount of money to most of the employees. Moreover, it takes the candidate’s bookish knowledge as well as practical knowledge to reach the helm. We also have the construction sector where every day we see many houses, offices, malls, and more buildings built. If half of the students study vocational training then it would be easier for them to grab a job in one of these sectors.Vocational skilled workers get a good amount of salary that is not found in many of the sectors. Their work is harder than many occupations. In fact, there are numerous places that hire vocational workers. Since the country is lacking vocational workers, apart from university education, I feel it will be beneficial for them as well as the companies. However, many students who wnat to pursue these profesional courses in many countries find it difficult to pay for the course fees which annually account for more than 70,000 USD. As a result they have to depend on bank loans which have high rate of interests and thus, affecting them eventually. Taking under consideration these cases, in order to encourage vocational training for electricians and plumbers, it is important for the governments to endure scholarship programmes under such courses. This would enable them to pursue their knack in professional training as well as secure jobs which would eventually lead them to contribute in the economy.

Band 8 IELTS Essay

I feel there is a need for vocational training just the way there is for university-level academic education. Vocational training includes skills of a plumber, electrician, health workers, manufacturers, traders, construction, trucking, and more. The reason behind my feeling for the higher need for vocational training is based on many factors.

Our world is undergoing a pandemic. Higher enrolling into vocational training would result in higher-level health workers. A higher number of health workers across the country would result in speedy recovery. This would save us thousands of humans on an everyday basis. Health workers hold a special position in every person’s life as they are helpful in saving a person’s life. The hospitals and nursing homes are running out of people due to the COVID-19 outbreak. With vocational training, there will be many people to join the health sector. The other reason includes contributing to the world’s economic growth. Construction, manufacturing, hair styling, auto servicing, computer support, dental care, are very crucial skills that not many people are knowledgeable about. Learning these skills would result in a higher level of income and employment in the country. This would eventually lead to a higher GDP. Since most people are gravitated towards learning academic subjects in university, the number of people pursuing vocational education has decreased. With inducing investments in vocational training by the government, it would be possible to increase the number of skilled workforce in different industries especially in a country like India. Accordingly, this would help people to find jobs while different industries like healthcare and others would benefit in terms of having efficient workforce. Thus, vocational training need to be encouraged within a country to help ensure that professional workers are able to find jobs and the vacancies and lack of qualified workers is reduced.
