Band 7 IELTS Essay
Nowadays, vehicles are regarded as the most common mode of transportation, whether for travel, work, or school. However, using a vehicle can be risky. Accidents can occur if safety measures are not taken into account. Speed limits may be one such measure, but other regulations and procedures should be taken into account to limit or prevent accidents altogether.
If the speed limit is less, it would be much simpler to stop the car in the event of any plausible emergencies. For example, an animal suddenly crossing the road or a preceding vehicle that might unanticipatedly stop due to a flat tire or a malfunction. Speed limits may be one of the most effective ways to reduce the number of accidents. However, using speed limits may result in minor traffic jams. This can impact the areas that do not require such relatively low limits, such as highways. In addition, other aspects of road safety should be taken into consideration if these kinds of measures are to be effective in reducing accidents.
Before any driver could receive his license, the government should ensure that all road signs are placed in their designated locations. They should monitor the condition of the roads in order to reduce accidents caused by poor road conditions and potholes. Road safety could be compromised by a variety of factors that the driver cannot control. Those include unnoticed ramp or a deep crack in the asphalt. Even if the vehicle is traveling within the speed limit, an accident could still occur due to bad road conditions. Training drivers, ensuring that their driving skills are up to par, and keeping the good road conditions will reduce the accidents.
In conclusion, while setting speed limits is one approach that could be taken to maintain road safety, other considerations must be given.
Band 8 IELTS Essay
It is a common misconception that lowering speed limits is the best way to improve road safety. Speed limits are, in my opinion, important, but there are also other bad things that make it unsafe to drive on the road.
Speed limits are important, but there are other important measures that could be taken to prevent fatal accidents. Plans for improving road safety plays an important role in government policies and procedures. To put it another way, increasing public awareness and conducting frequent license checks significantly contribute to safer roads. When driving on the road, it is essential for people to be aware of the regulations. This awareness can be spread to individuals through advertisements or brochures that encourage cautious driving. In addition, it is essential for the government to conduct frequent license checks to ensure that only drivers with valid licenses are operating motor vehicles and are familiar with all applicable laws.
However, there are advantages and disadvantages to lowering speed limits. One obvious advantage is avoiding accidents that kill people and leave families devastated. For instance, the UAE's roads and transport authority reported that lowering the speed limit from 120 to 100 kilometers per hour reduced the number of accidents by 30% in a single year. Reduced speed on roads has negative effects that cause congestion in cities, making it difficult for ambulances and people to get to hospitals in times of emergency.
In conclusion, there are numerous options for ensuring road safety. While the government plays a crucial role in maintaining regular inspections, it is our responsibility to ensure a safe roadway.
Band 6 IELTS Essay
Road accidents have claimed the lives of numerous individuals, according to the most recent report from the Indian government. Additionally, it is becoming increasingly popular in other regions of the world. In my opinion, raising the speed limit on the road will not help reduce such incidents. Additionally, some claim that this idea will lengthen travel times, which I find absurd.
On one hand, younger generations are driving aggressively because of high-performance engines in new automobiles, particularly motorcycles. Even though drivers under the age of 18 are not permitted to operate motor vehicles on public roads, this rule is not strictly adhered to. As a consequence of this, we are able to observe a lot of boys and girls riding at a higher speed. They also overtake other people with very close, sharp turns, and changing lanes without considering or indicating other passengers. This confuses them and causes them to lose their balance. In addition, a lot of people get into accidents because they don't know when to stop. Some don't check the brake fluid levels, don't look in the mirror to see where others are going, or drive on tires that are too old.
In contrast, the road should have minimum and maximum speed limits to prevent accidents. Similar to developed and western nations, our road should be in good condition with no potholes and proper finishing. The rules of the road should be followed by every citizen, and those who break them should pay serious traffic fines. We should keep speed monitoring radars and cameras to catch people who go too fast and fine them. Police will be able to identify and punish violators who repeat their actions thanks to this.
In conclusion of my arguments, speed limits and safe roads should be implemented to further reduce fatalities. Every citizen is responsible for protecting others, and the government ought to raise the requirements for issuing young people's driving licenses to the next level.
