Model Answer 1

Crime rate today is exceeding at an alarming rate. If I had to summarize the causes of the growing crime rate it would be poverty and unemployment. In India there is such a divide between the rich and the poor that people are prone to become burglars, thieves or indulge in other morally unethical activities. People are certainly afraid to leave their homes as the law system also does not take strict actions against the offenders. The laws that have been made for the wrong doers I believe do not justify the intensity of the crime committed. In my opinion the crime rate can be mitigated if the government becomes more vigilant about the growing crime rate. Unemployment is a major cause of people inclining towards becoming criminals. The lack of opportunities forces people to take up menial jobs to make ends meet. It leads to severe psychological and mental health issues that protrude out in a negative way. Of Course these issues cannot be eradicated completely, but a step forward towards solving them might mitigate the crime rate and the world would become a much safer place to live. I also feel that the government should include capital punishment in the law system as it will create a fear among the ciminals and also prevent crimes. In the United States at least 20 states practice death penalty. I believe it is the right thing to do to prevent and control heinous crimes and convince people that the world is a safer place. Also, the government should try and create more job opportunities for the people below the poverty line, as it will bridge the gap between the rich and the poor not completely but is a step forward.

Model Answer 2

Crime rate varies from one country to another. We are yet to come across an ideal world which is free from any criminal activities and a zero percent crime rate. Reports are often generated with the countries that have the highest crime rates across the world. The criminal activity is increasing day by day, and so is the intensity and nature of crime. Reading about some of the heinous crimes in the world is quite appalling and disappointing. No wonder people are afraid to leave their homes due to this and I completely blame the law system, poverty, unemployment and to some extent the political leaders for this. I completely disagree with the fact that nothing can be done about the growing crime rate.

If the government takes strict actions against the offenders, tightens their laws, and expands the job opportunities for the poor, the crime rate can be mitigated. It is not just the poor that are becoming criminals but the rich as well. There are voids in the law system of every country that are leading to an aggravating number of crimes every year. In some countries politicians prey on the poor and use blackmail, arson or extortion as a means to black them and get them to what they want. It is completely unacceptable when leaders of the country are promoting these things. The government should try and bridge the gap between the lower and upper middle class so that poverty does not become an ignitor of crimes. We cannot completely change and eliminate these economic issues completely, but an action needs to be initiated towards a bigger goal. I do not agree that nothing can be done about the growing crime rate. Instead the law making bodies have the power to control and alleviate it.

Model Answer 3

The debate to mitigate the increasing crime percentage across the world is a moot point. Some people believe that the crime rate can be controlled if the law enforcing bodies are quick in taking action when a crime is committed. Some people believe that nothing can be done to prevent crime. I completely disagree with this. Apart from the government routing out an action plan for the growing crime rate, people also need to be helpful to each other. There have been instances when people have become mere spectators to the atrocities around them. For example when a girl was stabbed in Hyderabad (India) in bright daylight, none of the people around stepped up to help her which thereby led to her on spot death. Another example would be of girls that become a victim of acid attacks. Nobody steps up even on saying such heinous crimes, as they are afraid of being dragged and being questioned by the police. It is not only the government but we also need to act as a helping hand to one another. Another small thing that can aid in catching the offenders would be to mandate everyone to install CCTV or burglar alarms in their homes. Now, not everyone might be able to afford them. In such cases the government should step up and install these free of cost to save lives and prevent crimes. It pops up the issue of poverty. Poverty, unemployment, and an inability to enforce strict laws are some of the major causes for the exceeding criminal activity. Poverty and unemployment cannot be eradicated completely, but the laws need to be tightened against the perpetrators. I strongly believe that capital punishment atleast for offenders that have committed heinous crimes. It is the only way to create fear and evade others from committing such crimes.
