Band 8 IELTS Essay

Athletic sports has become one of the most popular career choices by the younger generation who are passionate about different sports. In accordance with that many countries have taken the initiative to invest money in preparing competitors to join top level competitions of sports. These include competitions like the World Cup, the Olympics and even Commonwealth Games.

It is argued that in order to encourage children to exercise more and participate in these events in the future, they should be offered money. While I agree with this statement, the essay would discuss the reasons for my opinion. Top competitions in the world in the field of sports for example like the Olympic Games, World Cup, etc are of national importance. Children need to be encouraged from a young age about their essence and how being focused in a sport that they love would foster them to reach the competition. When people from different countries participate in the global competitions, the main aspect is to create an effective image of the country in the world. In order to enhance the global image of a country, international standard athletes are required for participation in these events. This requires a high form of encouragement from the governments of the countries who would invest money for them to join top level competitions. Moreover, children need to be given money as a motivational drive to engage them in different sports and become efficient in one to raise national pride. Children hence, need to be encouraged with the help of money to undertake regular exercises, be active and eventually participate in these events. However, many parents of children do not enable their children to participate in sports as a career choice. Parents are more concerned about their children’s academic rather than focusing on their talents. Encouraging children by giving them money to pursue their favourite sport would enable the parents to understand its significance better. This can be identified as sports quota or sports-based scholarships which students can achieve for studying in colleges or universities. Thus, children when encouraged with the driver of money to engage in more exercise and join training for international sports.

Band 7 IELTS Essay

International level competitions are of high importance and many people pursue their career goals with sports in the Olympics or the World Cup while they are very young. International competitions invest their money in order to prepare players for their sports. Some people consider that younger players need to be encouraged to play by giving them money, I disagree. I would state that giving children money would not benefit them or encourage them to engage in exercises. In terms of the positive aspects that can be expected monetary prizes and rewards gained by children encourages them to engage with their favourite sport. It significantly ensures that children are able to perform again and he/she would win prizes against her/him. When it is about international competitions, competitive spirit is created and developed by different coaches. Effectively, the monetary investments made only makes the children and their parents feel motivated to work hard and achieve what they want to achieve.

On the other hand, there are serious concerns regarding the aspect of encouraging children through monetary and financial rewards. Participating in international events requires determination and efficiency. However, if the children are more inclined towards the monetary gains and benefits, they would not respect the process of the competition. Their focus would be on the results rather than practising for the same. Children would not care what they are learning from their competitors or their win or loss from a game. In the case of team sports they would be focusing on their selfish needs and would not care for the team unless he/she is getting paid. Children would necessarily become blindsided with money and would not be able to do justice with the sport or with the country. It is essential that international events investing for their preparation for events take into consideration all of these aspects while encouraging children. While positive and negative effects of monetary gains by children can be identified, the negative aspects certainly overpower the positive ones in case of children.

Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

International sporting events can be considered to be of immense importance for a country that thrives with pride for its athletes. Certainly, countries try to invest more money for competitors to participate and represent the country at the global level. It is opined by some that encouraung children by giving money would help them engage more in exercising. While monetary benefits surely are gained from international sporting events, I disagree with such initiatives.

It is important to consider the fact that sports or exercises are a way to encourage children to be active in their life. It is how children might lead a healthier lifestyle pattern where they are fit and healthy. Participating in sports can be one of the excellent ways in which exercise for the children could be fostered. They can be motivated to keep themselves fit in this aspect. Moreover, whether individual or team sports, children are able to learn from sports considering the process of becoming a proficient athlete makes a person better. While individual sports like chess, javelin, etc makes a person learn and acknowledge one’s core strengths, team sports is more about teamwork benefits. Children are able to learn teamwork, leadership and gain skills which help a team to rise and celebrate their achievements and learn from failures together. For sports achievements and participation, many universities and colleges internationally provide admission to students. Sports scholarships are a way through which students are able to access their education well and this is a way of motivating students to remain part of the sports. Students are also able to participate in sports that not only represents the country but also are able to enhance the reputation of the educational institution. Henceforth, children already derive monetary benefits in the form of scholarships and prizes from the events they win. Additional money to be provided to the children is hardly required to persuade them to exercise.
