Band 7 IELTS Essay

It is unquestionably true that advertising has evolved over time. The practise of sponsoring sporting events or athletes has grown in popularity as a way for businesses to market their goods. This helps the sponsors spread the word about their products and attract new clients from around the world. Some people believe that this advertising strategy offers a number of advantages, while others think it has more disadvantages. However, in my opinion, the benefits exceed the drawbacks. Beginning with the fact that it boosts sales for the sponsoring businesses, sports sponsorship has many benefits. Consider a scenario in which the business sponsors a professional sports team or athlete with international appeal. Then the organisers won't have to worry about finances. These businesses spend a substantial chunk of money and handle all costs associated with the specific athlete or sporting event. They use player jerseys with their brand logo printed on them, as well as banners and posters, to draw viewers' attention to their goods. In time, the business gains widespread recognition in the society it is targeting. Additionally, the sponsorship might give emerging athletes a great starting point. On the other hand, it is important to be aware that there are some drawbacks to advertising. Such as the possibility that the firm would use the premises of sporting events to increase sales of their subpar goods. For instance, the wine supplier Kingfisher sponsored cricket to advertise its product, despite the fact that wine is harmful to human health. Therefore, the money spent by the corporation is lost if a sportsperson is hurt or ill during the competition season. Additionally, the reputation of the business is damaged if the sportsperson engages in illicit activities. Like match-fixing or the use of performance-enhancing substances. The true spirit of sports is also destroyed by these actions. To sum up, sponsoring sporting events benefits all parties equally, but there are also evident negative effects. When weighed against the benefits, the drawbacks are insignificant. From my vantage point, I think the company's sponsorship of sports has given it a chance to continue operating in the market.

Band 7.5 IELTS Essay

The infusing of money with sports has indeed bought about a series of positive developments in the field, but it is also no secret that it has some darker shades too.

Since the entry of business moguls, sports have become more about how to earn the most money possible and ensuring victories involving high strategic planning and less about sportsman spirit, or harmony, family time. This most of the time results in bitterness, rivalry, and fighting among fans, which takes away the charm of fair competition. It has become so much about always winning that sometimes a loss of team results in the fans being extremely disappointed and rioting against their home team itself, which in turn strips away the morale of the team players and demotivates them.

The sportsman who becomes the brand ambassador or the face of a big company starts to pay more attention to endorsements and money-making instead of practicing in the actual sport. The player can receive so much fame that might inflate their ego, resulting in them being involved in extreme actions like match-fixing betting, etc, anything to win.

If we look from a societal point of view, sports and games have a huge impact on youngsters especially pre-teens and teens, who wish to grow up and follow in a particular sportsman’s footsteps, if they see the sportsmen abusing drugs or regularly being involved more in the business money-making side rather than playing the sport, the might also lose interest and end up giving up their initial goal. Some companies also might advertisers supplements or products that might harm the people. This is usually when the company does not do sufficient research and just wants to rack up money.

Band 8 IELTS Essay

We can conclude that this way of advertising has both its positives as well as negatives. It can impact people from different walks of life in different ways. Some people are easily swayed by seeing fancy words linked to their favored sports and take the word as a guarantee and drop a lot of money to achieve the same goals as the sportsman. Some people are admittedly more skeptical about trying supplements or drinks sponsored.

There should be a proper way to advertise so that there is a good balance and it positively impacts the public. Companies should choose wisely who they would want as the face for them, as if anything were to happen to the selected player, in case they misuse or behave inappropriately, the company can be directly hit by this setback.

Companies usually have to spend enormous amounts of money just to advertise an advertise for a few minutes, this might not be worth it sometimes. Companies should also be careful about product placement intentionally or unintentionally. They should keep in mind that some of these athletes are world-renowned and every single action of theirs can directly impact the company. A good example of this would be when Ronaldo removed 2 bottles of Coca-Cola in an interview from his table, coca-cola sales fell rapidly in the next few weeks, thus negatively impacting the company.

But, new and upcoming can use this opportunity to create a name and place for themselves in this industry, a quick appearance of the product next to popular sportsmen can change the course of income for the company.

While some advertisements can manipulate people. We live in a consumer culture, some ads can persuade people to follow the latest trends even if it is unnecessary. This means again the company increases their sales and we as consumers blindly buy it just because.

In conclusion, advertising through sports has both advantages and disadvantages, but this can be easily balanced if companies are more mindful of the products they sell and the way they want to showcase them to the world. They should live up to the expectations without causing a negative impact on the consumers, so both the public as well as the industry can stay satisfied with the outcome.

This is a controversial topic as the views may highly depend on the person following the sports industry closely, versus those who watch it purely for entertainment. One should allow healthy discussion to take place and all opinions should be allowed.
