Band 8 IELTS Essay

Some people believe that it is the responsibility of manufacturers and suppliers to reduce product packaging, while others believe that the responsibility lies with consumers. In this essay, I will analyze both sides of the debate. On the one hand, I believe that companies have a significant responsibility to limit the amount of packaging they pack their products in. One of the reasons is that many consumers are barely aware of the negative impact that excessive product packaging has on the environment. Therefore, manufacturers and supermarkets should minimize the amount of plastic packaging they use to store and sell products, or preferably use only biodegradable, recyclable, or environmentally friendly materials. Moreover, many people cannot afford to be choosy when buying products. This is another reason why all companies should act more responsibly. On the other hand, individuals also have a responsibility to protect the environment from further destruction and pollution by limiting their consumption of products packaged with non-biodegradable materials. By boycotting certain products from companies that do not act environmentally conscious, consumers can pressure those companies to change their attitude towards the materials they use to package their products. This calls for companies to become more environmentally conscious by changing or reducing their product packaging. Consumers have the power to create change, but they need to act together to make it happen.

In summary, companies and individuals alike need to take responsibility for the amount of packaging materials used to package their goods. Governments also play a key role in this issue by creating and enforcing laws that businesses must follow regarding plastic packaging, and by educating people about the environmental degradation and pollution caused by packaging waste.

Band 7.5 IELTS Essay

Nowadays, the lifestyle of many people plays an important role in consuming different kinds of goods in their lives. Some people believe that many companies and markets have a big responsibility to reduce the packaging content of goods, while others believe that customers should avoid buying lightly packaged foods. In my opinion, factories and markets can contribute to reducing packaging by offering goods at low prices.

On the other hand, many people believe that the main responsibility to reduce the amount of packaging lies with factories and supermarkets. Because if they sell many unpackaged products at low prices for the first time as an advertisement, many consumers will prefer to buy those things to pay less money. Therefore, this strategy encourages consumers to buy various goods without packaging in order to save a lot of money and reduce the amount of packaging. On the other hand, it is sometimes thought that consumers should avoid using things with a lot of packaging because this strategy can be a decisive step to encourage companies and the market to reduce the production rate of products with a lot of packaging. In other words, if companies are aware of it, people will stop buying packaged products. Therefore, most factories prefer to produce various things without packaging in order to attract more customers. Nowadays, many manufacturers are trying to find different ways to increase their efficiency and find more customers for their products. For this reason, they prefer to focus on their customers' ideas.

In conclusion, although opinions may differ, supermarkets and manufacturers can play an important role in reducing packaging by offering customers more opportunities to buy things cheaper.

Band 7 IELTS Essay

There is a long-standing debate as to whether the responsibility for reducing the packaging of goods should lie with manufacturers and supermarkets or with customers. In my opinion, this is the most important first part in this process of packaging reduction. It cannot be denied that manufacturers, being key participants in the entire supply chain, allow changes from the source for this purpose. In this way, the benefits of packaging reduction are increased and a sustainable long-term development of the production chain is possible. In addition, retailers and manufacturers often have the funds to invest in research and development of sustainable packaging alternatives and therefore play a key role in influencing the packaging industry. This means that both manufacturers and retailers may be obliged to limit the amount of packaging in their products. On the other hand, I strongly believe that customers have little power to drive change towards an overall reduction in packaging, for the following reasons: When customers choose products according to the type of packaging, they may exert collective pressure on manufacturers and manufacturers to do so, encouraging them to offer less packaged goods. Although each individual has the opportunity to make different purchasing decisions and to drive the development of packaging patterns by avoiding heavily packaged goods, their role in the entire production process is still negligible.

Finally, I would like to reiterate my position that manufacturing companies and supermarkets have a larger role to play in reducing product packaging, taking into account the power of manufacturers over the entire production chain and financial supply.
