Letter to Your Friend That forgot Something at Your Place IELTS General Writing Task 1 is a letter writing topic. Candidates are asked to write an informal letter. Each of the three sample responses contains an introduction, a body, and a conclusion in three paragraphs. The letter must be brief and to the point. For IELTS General Writing Task 1, letters can be written in formal, informal, or semi-formal styles. The candidates must complete the task in 20 minutes. Topic: During a recent visit to your home, your friend forgot something at your place. Write a letter to your friend explaining the situation. In your letter you have to mention:

What your friend forgot
Where the item is now
A proposed arrangement to return the item

Model Answer 1

Dear Miraj,

I hope your three days at my house were enjoyable. I only wished that you could stay with us for a few more days, but sadly, you had to return due to your business requirements. I must admit that I had a great time hosting you at our house.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that you accidentally left your notepad and wallet at my house before leaving for home. I'm presuming that you didn't even remember taking the notebook out of your suitcase in the first place and that you mistakenly believed it was still there.
I also believe that you have noticed that your wallet is missing but may not have realised that you left it at my house. Both cash and a credit card are in your wallet.
Now that I know your notebook and wallet are with me, I can arrange for them to be delivered to you via courier mail. As an alternative, I may have one of my coworkers deliver it to you next month. This coworker's family is local to your hometown, and he or she visits them frequently. So, the decision is yours.

I hope you receive this letter in good health and have a safe journey. I want to express my gratitude for the wonderful weekend you made possible with your company. My mind went back to those wonderful times we spent on campus. I look forward to meeting you again soon.
But the reason I'm writing to you is to let you know that your pen drive has been left behind. I'm not sure if you've noticed it or not. After you left, I discovered it in the guest room. I gave the device to my mother to keep it in a safe place because I am not always around at home.
I am aware that the device has vital information that you must require. If so, feel free to take it whenever you choose from my house. Please notify me if you intend to visit; I'll inform my mother, who will hand it on to you. If you're busy, I can have it delivered to your location by courier. Please let me know which arrangement works best for you. I'm waiting for your response.

I'm writing to you for yet another reason, too. You have left behind a few books, which I don't know if you've noticed already. I realised you had left them on the coffee table after you had departed.
I am aware that you are a voracious reader and always have books with you. I was wondering if you would require them right away. In such a scenario, we'd need to set up a meeting time. Even though I will be at work, you are welcome to come by anytime and pick up the books from my wife while she is there. If not, we can meet somewhere else and I'll bring your books. If you are too busy, we can send them to you through courier. Please let me know which arrangement works best for you. I am waiting for your response.
