Letter to Your Friend Explaining Why You Will Not be Able to Join Them For Party IELTS General Writing Task 1 is a letter writing topic. Candidates in this letter are required to address their friends on the unavailability to attend their birthday party. The letter follows a formal approach. Dear Mehula,

I am writing this letter to let you know that I will not be able to attend your birthday party due to some family issues and I apologise for it. You are aware of how excited I was for your birthday party. I had planned a surprise for you. I bought a beautiful gift for you. Unfortunately, I received a call today morning. My grandfather told me that my grandmother slipped from the staircases. She was hospitalized due to severe injury on hand and head. She is unconscious in the hospital. Though my grandmother is there with her, there would not be ways for him to handle all this alone.

My grandparents are residing in the countryside. The network here is not proper which results in non reachable contacts. I am also writing this letter to wish you Happy Birthday. I don't have any other medium to contact you. I wish you many happy returns on the day. May you live a long life.

However, I am planning to have a party next week at my home. I will be returning to Mumbai next week. I will cook dinner and invite all my friends. It will be the best alternative for not attending your party.

I'm looking forward to seeing you.

How are you? I hope you are in good health. I am writing this letter to inform you about my unavailability for your birthday. I might not be able to attend your birthday party due to my job projects. I have a lot of deadlines to meet and there are many projects assigned to me. I have a lot of workload pressure. But the job is important for my career. I might have to go out of station in regard to the projects.

So, I would not be in the city on my birthday. You are aware of how excited I was for your birthday party. I planned a lot for you and I planned a surprise gift too. I would have to cancel all the plans now. I hope you understand my situation.

However, I am planning to organize a party for you next week in the newly opened hotel near my house. I will make all arrangements and will invite all our friends. I hope it will be a great alternative. I would appreciate it if you would agree to the party.

How are you? I hope you are in good health. I am writing this letter to wish you Belated Happy Birthday! I am deeply sorry and I apologise for not being able to attend your special day. As you are aware that I was very excited for your birthday. Also, because it was your 20th birthday. I planned a lot and I had to cancel all the surprises I planned.

As you know, we are going to launch many new projects in New Zealand very soon. Unfortunately, there were many projects going on. Before your birthday the servers for the project came to a half and it became a worrying situation for the whole team. There was no alternative for the same. I was immediately called to the office to find a solution.

It took us 2 days to solve the issue. I stayed two days in the office with the whole team. There was no time for sleep as well. Due to stress, and the situation the company faced, your birthday slipped off my mind.

To make it up with you, I would like you to allow me to invite you next weekend for a dinner get-together at your favourite restaurant. I am thinking of keeping the time at 6 PM or let me know your preferred time.
