Band 8 IELTS Letter

Dear Sir Coleridge,

My name is Angela Gianni. I moved into your building five years ago and since then I have been living here. My apartment is on the third floor right next to the staircase that leads to it. I am a grade schoolteacher so every evening I have to draw lesson plans or grade the answer sheets. I do not want absolute silence while working but an obnoxiously loud ruckus would be a hinderance to my work.

Recently, new people have moved in the apartment next door to mine, and they are in the habit of playing really loud music especially in the evenings when I have to work on my lesson plan and evaluations. I shifted my work timing to further in the night, but they continue blasting music until very late at night. I have not been able to finish my work for about a week now and there is no way to reason with them.

I would like to draw your attention to this ruckus which is in clear violation of the rules of this residential building. The building rules do not permit loud music late at night. I recommend that you please formally remind them of the rules and the consequences thereof in order to get rid of the nuisance.

Yours faithfully,
Angela Gianni

Band 7 IELTS Letter

Dear Madam Acton,

I am Petra Stanislav, an exchange student from Siberia. I have been living in this building for about a year now. My house is on the ground floor near the entrance of the building. I have classes in the University, so I leave very early in the morning to catch the bus. To leave this early I need to sleep early as well but I am finding it difficult to sleep early due to continuous partying in the building compound.

My house is on the ground floor so its near the garden area of this building. Of late, my neighbours have decided to use this compound as a place to party late into the night. These parties involve loud music which hampers my sleep. Although, the building code doesn’t allow leaving the premises after 11 PM in the night, in these parties many strangers are coming in and out of the building. I am a foreigner which makes it difficult for me to hold a conversation with so many strangers. Its difficult for me to locate the organiser of the party as well.

I suggest that you ask these people about the incessant partying and locate its organiser. They violate multiple rules of the building code. Maybe a warning coming from an authority figure will stop them.

Yours Sincerely,
Petra Stanislav

Band 6.5 IELTS Letter

Dear Sir Anderson,

My Name is Manuel Delgado, and I am a resident of this building for past 15 years. I live on second floor of this building. This building is a good place to live, and I have never faced any problem in my past 15 years of stay. But like every other person I would like peace and quiet when I am trying to sleep.

My neighbour who lives on the floor just above me has recently gotten into the habit of vacuuming in the middle of the night. Their vacuum makes a lot of noise and its right above my bedroom where they vacuum every night. I haven’t been able to sleep for 2 days. In an effort to know the reason of this sudden nuisance I tried ringing their doorbell and nobody answered. I tried to talk to them the next morning, but the apartment was empty by then. So, I haven’t been able to get a hold of them.

I would like to request you to use your authority as the manager of the building to contact them. I believe if they can be contacted regarding this incident and their reasons for this bizarre behaviour are determined, we can put a stop to this.

Yours faithfully,
Manuel Delgado
