Letter to a Shipping Company to Ship a Furniture IELTS General Writing Task 1 is a letter-writing topic. Candidates are required to address the senior officer about the issues in a formal tone. Topic: You relocated to an overseas country recently and shipped your furniture and other possessions through a shipping company. When you received them, you found that some of them had got damaged. Write a letter to the delivery manager of the shipping company: In your letter, explain:

  • when and where the shipment was
  • describe the damages
  • what you want the shipment company to do.

Model Answer 1

Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to inform you that recently I availed services from your company's end. Since I traveled from India to Dubai recently, I decided to shift my furniture overseas by availing the help of your company. As per the receipt provided from your end, the furniture was shipped on 15/12/2021. I regret to inform you that even after waiting for 5 days extra, the furniture was not looking up to the mark.
Once, the delivery agent came to deliver the furniture. They seemed to be in a hurry and threw my furniture in front of my eyes. On asking them to safely keep the furniture, they started working more rudely and throwing the furniture as if it was free of cost.
After going through my furniture, I found multiple scratches and dents on furniture. Most of the items were not properly packed. Almost all fragile furniture like crockery and TV was broken. I cannot express how disappointed I am with your company and workers. My furniture has suffered a great amount of damage. Many furniture items were being transported, but none of the furniture looked fine. All of the furniture be it a sofa or bed or TV everything has suffered great damage. The condition of the sofa is miserable, the springs came out of the cushions. I will attach the photographs of the furniture which I have received.
I tried calling the customer care number of your company, the employees were so rude and were not giving a proper answer for anything. Again and again, I have to repeat my concern to every agent and it was of no use there was no positive response from their end. I have even tried to call you, but there was no response from your side either.
Kindly provide me with the solution within 3 days, otherwise, I won't be left with any other choice but to file a complaint against your company. I would like to hear from you at the earliest.

Dear sir,
I would hereby like to express my disappointment after seeing the condition of my furniture. My furniture was shifted from India to the USA on 23/5/2022. The list of furniture includes crockery, LCD TV, Queen size bed, and other electrical appliances.
I decided to move to the USA and chose your company for shifting my furniture from India to the USA. On 24/5/2022, I finally unpacked my furniture and to my surprise, none of the items in the furniture was in good condition. It was heartbreaking to see my crockery broken and not packed properly. Even the LCD TV had a scratch and its remote is missing. Apart from it, the bed has many dents and scratches which have spoilt the entire look of the bed. For your reference, I will attach the photographs of the damage which is visible.
The electrical appliances were not in working condition, and they were not even packed. There was no bubble wrap to protect the furniture from any sought of damage. The employees of your company were very careless while delivering and packing the furniture items. I chose your company over others because of your credibility and assurance that my furniture will be safely shifted. Even the employee of yours who shifted the furniture was rude and almost threw the boxes at my doorstep. After politely responding to such an act, I received a negative response from their side, such things are not acceptable.
I don't know how you are going to solve the issue, but I want the expense for the damage done to my furniture. I will attach a copy of the bill that you should pay as a penalty. Only after paying you will for the damage, I will be paying you the remaining transfer charges. I have tried calling you multiple times but it seems you were engaged in some work, so I am writing you this letter.
Kindly look into the matter, and try to provide a solution within 2 days. Otherwise, it won't be good for you and your company's reputation in public.

Dear Sir,
I am writing this to inform you that recently I moved to China with my family. I trusted your company and planned to give your company a chance to shift my furniture from India to China. However, I feel really disappointed to inform you that your employees didn't perform up to the mark and damaged all my furniture.
The list of items that I asked to transport from India to China includes crockery, a speaker, a sofa, and multiple electronic items. I received the furniture three days late from the date issued in the receipt. Finally, the package arrived on 29/7/2021 and the employees were literally throwing the furniture. Even after mentioning that delicate items are to be shipped. They were being very careless with the furniture and when I asked them patiently to keep the furniture on the floor carefully, they started screaming.
On the same day when I unpacked the furniture, I saw my furniture in miserable condition when I further questioned them about the damage. However, they gave a rude reply. The cover of the sofa was torn from multiple places, and dents were found on electrical appliances. Not only this, my crockery was broken since it was not wrapped in bubble wrap. Even though the speaker was working when the furniture was being packed, now even though they are not working, it is impossible to get them repaired. After contacting the customer service agent I got a negative reply from their end which again turns out to be disappointing.
I want compensation for the damage done to my furniture. It's been a week, I am trying to have a conversation with you over a call. But, it was not possible because of your busy schedule.
I am hoping to receive a reply to this problem as soon as possible. Kindly, acknowledge the letter and provide any solution for the same. In case you fail to respond to me with a solution in 2 days after receiving this letter, I will take strict action against you and your company.
I am attaching the photo of the damaged items and receipt for your convenience.
