Letter to a Friend for Advice whether to go to College or get a job IELTS General Writing Task 1 is a letter writing topic. • explain why getting a job is a good idea for him/her

Dear Sam

Hope you’re well. I got your letter yesterday and I am glad you asked for my advice before making a decision. I know you have been studying journalism and I am glad that you scored such great results. I know that you love studying and I understand that you want to go for higher studies as well. While I feel in a few streams it is important to go for higher studies, journalism has huge scope in today’s world. With the rise in digital marketing and digital content can be considered quite effective in the current market. Journalism students are preferred within the industry quite effectively. By entering into the employment area you would be able to become financially independent. Moreover, in today’s market where skills and expertise is what organizations and companies require. It is important to focus on the aspect of being able to enhance your experiences. Moreover, after graduation, life in University becomes a bit more boring. I have felt that it has become imperative to rather go for master’s while one can easily acquire a degree from correspondence or distance courses. Accordingly, I would personally suggest you to be more practical about your life. Where you can gain experiences and utilize the skills and knowledge you developed during your college life in the workplace. This would help you develop practical knowledge as well. Considering the field of journalism, you might have various options of jobs available. Including content writing, digital marketing, editor, columnist, public news reporter, interviewer, etc which you might pursue. However, as I know your strength in having effective communication abilities. I would personally suggest you to choose the job role of a news reporter which would suit your confidence and personality as well.

Where you asked for my advice for your future career prospects. While I am extremely flattered that you chose me for guidance. I would like to share practical advice with you which I feel is important for any individual. Which is that education has no value without experiences and vice-versa. I feel it is important for every individual in specific fields to utilize their skills and knowledge. In a field that would help him or her to experience work life. The need is to understand that while you have enjoyed your college life during graduation quite well. It would not be the same for your Research level considering that competition has increased. With the field of BBA that you have excelled in gracefully, I feel before considering MBA as your choice of study. You choose to gain experience of at least two years and later apply for your MBA. I might also inform you that MBA is a course that you may undertake through distance education while also being involved in practical work. When a company realizes that you’re putting your efforts in terms of working and increasing your knowledge, it would benefit you more. I should add that financial independence is what you shall enjoy while working in the field of business. There are several jobs available in the area of BBA, including marketing, sales, administration, etc. And you should definitely try your expertise being utilized in the market. I feel it is important for every individual in specific fields to make use of their skills and knowledge practically. While college life must have been quite enjoyable, it is time that one becomes rational and chooses wisely. While you have completed two of the most difficult areas of studies that India has today in terms of B.Com and CA. I feel it is important you utilize your intelligence in the market. M.Com is an area of study which you might be able to consider even by considering an online approach of taking the degree. However, practicing your skills as a CA under a skilled and established individual. Or within a company of CAs would only enhance your knowledge in the practical area of life. Getting a job as an assistant CA would also help you earn money and remain independent. Hence, enhancing your efficiency. The experience, skills and awareness you would gain from working as a CA.
