Letter to a Friend Apologising for Not Being Able to Make it to the Theatrical Performance IELTS Writing Task 1 is a letter writing topic. Topic: You and your friend have recently purchased tickets for a theatrical performance in advance. However, you can’t make it due to some personal reasons. You have decided to apologise to your friend as you can’t make it to the theatre with him.
Write a letter to this friend. In your letter:

apologies to him/her as you can’t go to the theatre
explain why you can’t make it
give options what can be done with the tickets

Band 8 IELTS Letter

Dear Kunal,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my sincerest apologies for not being able to make it to the theatrical performance that we had planned to attend together. I understand that we had purchased the tickets in advance and that this must be very disappointing for you.

Unfortunately, I have come across a personal matter that I must attend and will not be able to make it to the theatre on the day of the performance. I understand that this may cause an inconvenience for you and I am truly sorry for any disappointment that this may cause.

I would like to offer a few options for the ticket that we purchased. Firstly, I am more than happy to reimburse you for the cost of your ticket. Alternatively, if you would still like to attend the performance, I would be more than happy to transfer the ticket to you. It will allow you to attend the performance with another friend or family member. Lastly, If neither of these options work for you, we can always look into the possibility of a refund or a rescheduling of the performance.

Once again, I apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause and I hope that we can find a solution that works best for you. Please let me know how you would like to proceed and I will make sure to take care of it as soon as possible.

Band 6.5 IELTS Letter

Dear Manoj,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my sincerest apologies for not being able to make it to the theatrical performance that we had planned to attend together. I know how much you were looking forward to it and I feel terrible for having to let you down.

Unfortunately, due to some personal reasons, I will not be able to make it to the theatre on the day of the performance. I understand how much of an inconvenience this is for you and I want to make it up to you in any way that I can.

As for the ticket, I understand that it may be of no use to you now that I won't be able to attend the performance with you. If you would like, I can give you the option to either keep the ticket and try to find someone else to go with, or I can refund the cost of the ticket to you. Please let me know what you would prefer and I will make sure to take care of it.

I truly apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and I hope that you can find a way to still enjoy the performance. I know how much you love the theatre and I regret not being able to share that experience with you.
