Letter to a Family Member Who is Coming to stay with You IELTS General Writing Task 1 is a letter-writing topic. Candidates are asked to write an informal letter. Each of the three sample responses contains an introduction, a body, and a conclusion in three paragraphs. The letter must be brief and to the point. For IELTS General Writing Task 1, letters can be written in formal, informal, or semi-formal styles. The candidates must complete the task in 20 minutes. Topic: A family member is coming to stay with you. He/she will be arriving by train in the morning, but you won’t be home until the evening. Write a letter to your relative.
In your letter:

1. explain the arrangements you have made for them to get keys and enter the house
2. tell your relative how to get from the train station to your house
3. say when you will be home and suggest what you could do together that evening

Dear Samir,

I hope you're doing well. I'm at a loss for words to explain how delighted I am to learn that you will be visiting me next week. I can't wait to have you here and spend some quality time with you.
Unfortunately, I have a crucial meeting at my office on June 7, the day of your arrival, and I'm scheduled to arrive there quite early. I wish I could have been there to greet you at the train station. But don't worry, I'll leave the keys with my neighbour, George. He expects you at around 9:30 am and resides in the opposite flat, B2. Simply mention that you are Samir, my cousin, and he will give you the keys.
You can call a cab from the railway station and give the driver my apartment's address. He will take care of the rest, since cab drivers are familiar with the address. Rent should range between 15 and 20 pounds.
When I return at 6:30 p.m., I'll take you to dinner at one of my favourite eateries. After that, we can go for a short walk to meet Aunt Lucy, who lives nearby.
We're going to do a lot of interesting things together, just like the days when we were kids, and I have a lot to share with you! I hope your journey is pleasant.

I hope everything is going well for you. Thank you very much for coming to stay with me. But sadly, I won't be able to pick you up from the train station that morning since I have to stay outside of the city for some crucial work.
You are familiar with the duties of a marketing director. However, please don't be worried; I've asked my landlady to give you the keys to my flat as soon as you arrive. Moreover, I shall return to my residence later that day.
We'll go to a fancy restaurant for supper as soon as I get here, too. Then, we'll visit a local lake that looks stunning at night.
Anyway, before I end, allow me to tell you how to get from the railway station to my place. You need to catch a taxi and tell the driver to take you to "Oaktree village home"; he or she will then drive you there. Each and every taxi driver in the town is aware of it as a well-liked residential area.
I want to do a lot of important things with you, just like we used to when we were little, and I have a lot to discuss with you. I wish you a safe trip.

You can reach the exit through the crossover bridge immediately after exiting the train. When you turn left to depart, the auto parking area is 2 minutes away. Ankita, a friend of mine, will be there in her white Swift wagon. She can't come out to meet you because of the crowded parking, so look for her MX-695 vehicle. You may reach her at 6900 7788. She will assist you with the essentials until I arrive. Furthermore, she is approachable, so don't be afraid to ask for anything.
By four o'clock in the evening, I'll be at home, and after that, we can relax and eat some meals that I will prepare myself. A Diwali exhibition is also present in Little India, where we can spend some time if time permits.
