Speaking Part 2 - Languages
I have been learning English since my childhood but I didn’t get any chance to improve my speaking skills. I think 2 years ago on a special occasion I used the English language for the first time for communication purposes.
At that particular time, I went out with my family, we were talking about some interesting stuff related to movies and serials. Suddenly, a foreigner approached me and asked for the direction to a nearby grocery store. To be honest, he had really a strong English accent that I couldn’t understand what he is trying to tell. I asked him to reiterate several times what he wanted to say. Then, I understood what he was trying to tell and I showed him the route to the nearest grocery store. Honestly, I was not confident in my way of speaking skills in English, so I had to practice my nonverbal skills such as body language, gestures, etc. Fortunately, he got my words and understood what I said. He expressed his gratitude before heading to the grocery store.
That moment helped me to strengthen my belief that language plays a crucial role in our life especially English, even we aren’t born in an English speaking country. It is spoken globally, and we should use it if we want to network in another country. Therefore, I think that I must polish my English speaking skill so that I can communicate effectively and I can talk confidently with foreigners regarding any topic.
