Japan Marriage and Divorce Rates between 1970 and 2016 IELTS Writing Task 1 is the IELTS academic topic. This IELTS section is mainly based on the various types of flowcharts, pie charts, diagrams and graphs. Japan Marriage and Divorce Rates between 1970 and 2016 IELTS Writing Task 1 comprises three model answers explaining the divorce rates in Japan. Band 7 IELTS Answer

The ratio of mature adults over the age of fifty who were not married between 1970 and 2010 is shown in the table. The number of marriages and divorces in Japan between 1970 and 2016 is shown in the line graph.

Overall, the table shows that the percentage of 50-year-old adults who have never married increased throughout the year. However, the line graph shows that the number of marriages was higher than divorce until the last year.

When we look at the table, it appears that only 2% of 50-year-old residents were unmarried in1970, increasing slowly by 2% in 1980. In a similar way, it shifted only slightly to 7% in 1990. The percentage of elderly people who had never been married gradually increased from 7% in 1990 to 15% in 2010.

Comming to the second chart, the number of married people was 1,000,000 in 1970, but it significantly decreased to 800,000 between 2000 and 2010. The number of marriages steadily decreased, reaching just over 600,000 by the end of the year. On the other hand, divorce rates in Japan peaked at around 200,000 in 1970, with a slight increase to 200,000 by 1990. However, once more, it grew slowly, reaching less than 400000 in 20,000, and it remained largely unchanged until the last year 2016.
