Topic: It is much more convenient to watch movies on television or computer than buy a ticket and go to the cinema. In the near future the popularity of cinemas will drastically decline. Do you agree or disagree?

Band 7 IELTS Essay

More individuals now prefer to watch movies online or on television at home, compared to twenty years ago. Some people think that in the near future, people will become less interested in watching movies in cinema halls. Others, however, disagree and contend that technological advancements do not make going to the movies at the theatre any less appealing.

I would say that I have mostly agreed with this concept. The first factor contributing to this replacement is how obsolete and inconvenient this traditional form of entertainment is becoming. People today anticipate the most practical means of entertainment after work or school, despite the fact that technology is continually evolving. As a result, visiting a movie theatre doesn't appear to fulfil this need. Without having to wait in line for a ticket, people may immediately access the digital movies they have purchased. In the same way, individuals prefer to watch television shows in their beds and then turn out the lights when they are weary. The second reason is that paying for movie tickets at a theatre is generally more expensive than watching movies and TV shows online. These days, there is no pricing competition between movies in theatres and digital entertainment. Price-wise, the cost of a single movie ticket ranges from 300-500 bucks, online streaming platforms offer multiple contents for less than 500 per month. People don't visit these movies for a number of reasons, including the added expense of travel to theatre locations. Additionally, there are other costs that contribute to how expensive it is for consumers to visit movie theatres. Not to mention that the trend has drastically changed since COVID-19. These facts indicate that individuals are no longer choosing to go to movie theatres. In conclusion, I think that in the near future, the growth of home entertainment systems will completely destroy the moviegoing industry.

It is believed that due to technological advancements, people may choose to view a movie on a small screen as opposed to a larger one. As a result, it is more probable that consumers will avoid going to the multiplex, which will reduce its appeal. I wholeheartedly concur with your viewpoint and believe it will be difficult for movie theatres to survive in the future.

Let's start with the most recent development in technology, the OTT (over-the-top) platform. The way we used to watch movies has changed thanks to technology specifically created for smaller screen devices like TVs and laptops. This is due to the fact that it offers a wide selection of the movies with a high-resolution screen and for a lower annual subscription charge. It is common to notice a drop in the number of people attending a Cineplex as a result. For instance, the OTT platform recently unveiled the website Netflix, which offers Hollywood and Bollywood films for audiences of all ages and interests. Because of this, people prefer to watch a movie at home instead of at the theatre. Second, it has been observed that movie ticket costs today are far higher than they were in the past. The reason for this is that they are having a hard time surviving in the market and have been left with no choice as a result of the launch of the OTT platform. As a result, consumers choose to buy a family annual package for an OTT platform instead of going to the movies. For instance, the Cineplex Entertainment Company has said on their official website that after raising the price of movie tickets, sales drop by 58%. To sum up, I vehemently argue that the OTT platform will unquestionably outweigh the benefit of the larger screen of movie theatres. As a result, there may come a time when nobody visits a multiplex anymore.

According to others, the development of technology has led to an increase in the popularity of viewing movies on television to going to a movie theatre. This will consequently have a big effect on the theatre business. I wholeheartedly concur with the view that claims the development of new methods of watching movies will have a negative impact on the movie-going industry.

The price of a movie is a major factor in determining whether to see a movie at home or in a theatre. Compared to watching a movie on your television or computer at home, going to the movies is considered to be more expensive. When you factor in the price of travel and meals, going to the movies becomes prohibitively expensive. People may watch movies at home for less money while still getting the same cinema experience thanks to online streaming. For instance, consumers can watch movies of higher quality and for less money while relaxing in their own homes thanks to streaming services like Netflix, etc. Additionally, the average cost of an internet membership is $15, while movie theatres charge the same price for a single film. People are now choosing to watch movies on their personal electronic devices rather than going to the theatre as a result of this. Second, it's important to evaluate how you can watch a movie. Since the running times of movies in theatres conflict with certain people's schedules, they are unable to attend a showing. After work, most people want to go home and relax. As a result, they find it challenging to go to a movie theatre, which may make them feel more stressed if it's packed. However, online streaming services have made it possible for anyone to watch movies at their convenience. In conclusion, I firmly believe that movie streaming services are the way that movies will be seen in the future. People choose to obtain the same degree of experience in a more practical manner at a lower cost.
