Band 8 IELTS Essay

There are some people who have the opinion regarding the extinction of the animal species citing it as a natural process. Considering it a natural process, they argue that there is no reason for people to prevent the extinction of the species. However, I believe that despite extinction being a natural process, in the modern world human activities also have a role to play in it. Accordingly, I disagree that people should not try to prevent the extinction of animal species. Human beings should make all possible efforts to keep the animals alive as long as possible. The argument that favours this topic focuses on the fact that extinction of animals is a natural process and no interference is required in them. However, the presence of humankind on Earth can be considered a boon and a curse. While modern developments in society have been possible because of humans' expertise, it is the same human that has induced trajectory effects on the environment. Nature works in a balance of animals and plants and water bodies coexisting on the planet. However, with rapid growth of industrialisation and urbanisation, the ecological balance has been disrupted on a massive scale. It is true that all animals would become extinct at one point or another being a natural process. The same has been validated with the extinction of dinosaurs, dodos, etc. But their extinction happened naturally, dinosaurs became extinct even before human species came into existence. On the other hand, many animal species in recent years have become extinct mainly due to human activities. These include deforestation, use of natural resources on a massive scale, extensive dumping of garbage and wastes, etc which has increased carbon footprint. This has resulted in an increase of greenhouse gases. Hence, it can be concluded that while no interference in the natural life cycle of animals is expected, human activities need to be under control. This is to ensure that human activities indirectly do not become a reason for early extinction of the animal species.

Band 7 IELTS Essay

The theoretical statement about animal extinction being a natural phenomenon is in fact a reality. Considering that in some way or the other, they would be extinct like the dinosaurs. However, I do not agree with the fact that we as humans should not do anything to preserve and prevent them from extinction. It may be identified that human activities are a way through which challenges are endured by animals in living in the natural environment. Extinction of the dinosaurs for example took place long before the existence of humans. However, the existing animals surviving in their habitat are faced with challenges caused by human activities which cannot be ignored. These activities of humans include the rapid industrial developments that cause immense air, water and land pollution, large scale deforestation, etc. All of these are causing the ecological disbalance due to which the natural environment is degrading. Moreover, the depletion of the natural resources in the environment can be considered to be a huge issue that has led the animals to get displaced from their homes. Not being able to survive in the natural habitat has led to animals dying. While hunting and poaching has become illegal in many parts of the world, it still exists in the environment resulting in their extinction of the species. Forest fires are a natural phenomenon caused mainly due to human activities resulting in depletion of the forests which are natural homes of many animals. The impact is significantly felt on the environment resulting in climate change making it difficult for the animals to survive. Certainly, lack of awareness and education on how to protect the environment and the animals living with them is a cause for the same. Young students and people need to be made aware of the issue thereby making their activities limited in harming the ecosystem. Animal species’ extinction cannot be controlled because of its natural life cycle. However, the impact of human activities causing their extinction can be limited and reduced for their survival for longer years.

Band 7.5 Essay

The extinction of the animal species is opined by some people as a natural process whereby generations survive before they are completely extinct. Being a natural process, people have argued that prevention of animal species’ extinction is not required. However, I believe that in the modern world human activities also have a role to play in the extinction of animals, despite extinction being a natural process. Therefore, I disagree that people should not try to prevent the extinction of animal species. However, the presence of humankind on Earth can be considered to be quite challenging for both the natural environment, animals and even for humans. Modern developments like industrialisation, urbanisation has led to the expansion of the habitats for humans to live. Further, the natural environment has been suffering on a massive scale. The natural balance of the ecosystem is disrupted with the unwanted and unlimited human activities. These activities utilise the natural resources but contribution towards its protection is largely limited. Extinction of animals has been taking place since before humans appeared on earth. Accordingly, it is true that all animals would become extinct at one point or another as it is the natural cycle for animals to die. Although the process is quite lengthy considering the presence of numerous generations of the animals on earth. The same has been validated with the extinction of dinosaurs, dodos, etc which have survived millions of years before they were extinct billions of years along. Many animal species in recent years have become extinct mainly due to human activities including western black Rhino, Splendid Poison Frog etc in the last ten years. The reasons for their extinction is related to deforestation, forest fires, urban developments, etc. Hence, it can be concluded that there is indeed no need for intervention for preventing extinction because of the natural process. However, intervention is required in human activities that do not steer the extinction of animal species before time.
