International Sporting Events Can Contribute To World Peace IELTS Writing Task 2 consists of three sample answers provided below. The sample answers comprise two parts: Introduction and body. The introduction is a brief description of the topic. The body contains argumentative statements and tentative answers to support the test-taker's perspective. The task requires the candidates to provide a tentative and argumentative answer to the question.

IELTS writing task 2 evaluates candidates based on the knowledge and views they have expressed. The areas that candidates are assessed on are grammar, vocabulary, and style. IELTS writing score is marked based on band scores. The band scores range from 0 to 9. Topic: International sporting events can contribute to world peace. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Model Answer 1:

Sports and Games have pushed the boundaries of the country and have attracted national and international fans and players. So it is a fact that sports and games have the strength to unite the world and maintain global peace.

Without any doubt, sports and games at the international level play a very important part in maintaining diplomatic relations among different countries. Considering past events, there are still political reasons for which many countries are not at peace with each other. Thus, sports may bring out similar satisfaction as a victory in wars does but brings peace and friendship among the nations. Mainly, International gaming events have been leading to sharing of common platforms by competitors, fans, and government bodies which gave them a more sophisticated way to interact with each other. Even international gaming events such as Olympics, commonwealth games, and world cups gave recognition to smaller countries. For example, it is very hard to find Iceland on a world map, however, the country is well-known because of its football team and has always participated in FIFA World Cups.

However international sporting events also have negative sides also. The expense of conducting an international event is very costly. Although it gives entertainment, the expense is much higher. The stadiums are built by the government and many people think this is an unnecessary expense as the money used here could have helped other serious issues be resolved. Attacks during International events are not very uncommon these days. The Newzealand tour of Pakistan for a cricket match is a very recent example. There needs to be heavy security for conducting these events.

Thus conducting events like these are risky but I genuinely believe conducting international sporting events can bring harmony within countries.

Technological advancement has given rise to different types of communication systems with other countries, but one must not forget that attending International sporting events can also promote peace among countries. Some people believe that global sporting events boom the communication of each country and hence prevent the world from getting separated. International sporting events like the Olympics where a lot of athletes come and showcase their talent in front of the world by representing their countries, taking full advantage of the event to improve their bond with other countries. Many leaders of countries take advantage of this good cause to build a good relationship with other countries.

Creating good relationships with different nation help the country in long run. They get proper help and support during their needs. For example, The Indian Cricket team has a very good relationship with the Afghanistan Cricket team and as a result, the disparities between the two countries got resolved and we Indians also have become a big fans of their team. Even players from other countries inspire us with their awesome gameplay. For example, the Indian Cricket fans in the USA have led to a strong relationship between the two counties. Good athletics always make positive impacts on the mind of international fans, which makes the fan know about their country and arrange a visit there. For example, Portugal and Argentina are some of the smallest nations in the world but the whole world knows the country because of two famous international players Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. I believe that international sporting events can nurture bonds within countries, leading to a better world.

Model Answer 3:

World peace seems to be a highly unattainable goal, but I firmly disbelieve it. I believe it is possible for us humans to achieve world peace but I do not believe that international sporting events are the best possible way to go about it.

International sporting events are a great way to bring the whole world together (or most of the world) for a brief period of time. For this brief period of time, we witness some of the finest athletes across the globe display their sport and amuse everyone. No doubt they end up inspiring millions of people across the globe. For me, this is the beauty of any sport. But it hardly adds up to strengthening world peace.

In addition to sporting events, more emphasis should be made on understanding each other. At the end of the day, we are all humans. This fact alone if understood can bring a lot of changes in my opinion.
