Recently, Hazel and I went out for some shopping and she introduced me to some small brands along with some thrift stores that have come up in the market. I was unaware of them and although we did buy a lot of clothes and jewelry, we later talked about how it is important for us to support these brands. We went to a coffee shop to discuss the same. She told about the emerging small businesses in the market and the presence of thrift stores from where one can do their shopping.

What the speech/conversation was about?

She told me about the coming up of the small clothing brands being highly sustainable in nature considering they deal with the weavers and producers themselves, engage with the artisans to bring the designs of clothes to life, and offer them fair prices for their efforts and hard work. The source of the clothing materials is organic and directly from the suppliers without having any intermediaries who might charge more and not pay fairly to the original suppliers. Furthermore, the thrift stores within the market that have emerged as sole-proprietorship and even through online mode of selling products help create an environmentally friendly condition where the clothes are not wasted or dumped by people.

Why it was interesting to you?

Rather the clothes that are used and are in good condition can be reused by others and hence, thrifting can become a popular way of purchasing clothes at an affordable price range as well. I found the conversation extremely interesting and I was fascinated by the entire concept of sustainable clothing options. Moreover, I was able to enhance my knowledge in terms of fashion which made me realize how important sustainable fashion choices are for us as a society to make a difference and protect the environment.

Working in different companies and in different fields has not changed our bond and we still hang out together and have phone call conversations. Last week, both of us attended a seminar where discussions on feminism and women’s position in society took place in my office and I invited her to the same. After the seminar, we were discussing the various aspects of feminism in society which are often mistaken by people, girls and boys alike.

What the speech/conversation was about?

The conversation was extremely interesting as through the conversation we were able to explore various new aspects that is important for feminism to address. Rihanna mentioned how men try to relate feminism as being only focused on how women in society need to succeed and enhance their position and feel that men in society are being negatively imprisoned due to feminism. We discussed how feminism is taking a wrong notion considering it is not about what good is to be done for women but rather providing women equal opportunities, treatment, and respect, the same way that men have enjoyed for centuries. I further added the fact that feminism also stands up for men in society who have been dominated by the age-old patriarchal notions which have suppressed the emotional capabilities of men with ideas of men not being sensitive.

Why it was interesting to you?

Further, they have been burdened with the responsibilities of being physically masculine as the sign of being a true man, having financial stability and position in society as depicting one’s power, and household chores not being the job of a man. The conversation was interesting considering that we could find the flaws that society still has within itself that need to be cleared and normalize men being sensitive and being homemakers while women being financially independent and the bread earner of the family.

When you heard him/her or talked with him/her?

From his gestures to the way he speaks and the way he acts, inspires and excites every Sherlock Holmes fan. The main conversation that took place between us was regarding my joining him as a food blogger. While Zayn has been food blogging for the last two years and has gained immense popularity in the city, I discussed the same with him. Being a foodie myself and loving to explore new and existing places of food, Zayn was extremely delighted to find himself a partner he could hang around to different food places with.

What the speech/conversation was about?

He let me know about how food blogging works in the entire social media platform, and that we need to create content regularly from posts to reels and even videos. I have been able to take great interest in the same and listened to him with deep concentration. He made me aware of some places not having good food but being bloggers we need to try them and accordingly, give them feedback about the good and bad food preparation and how they might improve.

Why it was interesting to you?

Moreover, the conversation further led to him inviting me to a week’s schedule where I can go with him to different cafes and restaurants and blog for them. From taking videos to pictures and making reels, I said I am very excited for it and I would love to pursue something which is entirely different from my own corporate job.
