Increasing number of professionals are leaving their own poorer countries IELTS Writing Task 2 consists of three sample answers provided below. Topic: An increasing number of professionals, such as doctors and teachers, are leaving their own poorer countries to work in developed countries. What problems does this cause? What solutions can you suggest to deal with this situation?

Brain Drain is not a new concept. It has been in existence since the 1950s and since the situation has not been reversed. It has now become a serious concern for developing countries. As an increasing number of working professionals like doctors and teachers are moving to developed countries for work. It is thereby leading the poorer countries to further become poor due to the migration of skilled workers. A lack of unskilled labor is further increasing the death rate in these countries. WHO promotes the ratio of population to doctors to be 1: 1000. However, it is not achievable if the migration of skilled labor continues. Education sector will also suffer due to this. The migration of qualified teachers will lead students to opt out of school. Which will further increase the number of unskilled human resources in the country. This again will affect the economic situation of the country. To overcome the above problems the government should step in by rewarding the deserving candidates by offering scholarships. More research facilities should also be opened. Increase in the payscale of doctors and teachers is another factor that can lead to the decline in migration of skilled labor to developed countries. Individuals excelling in their field of study should be presented with awards or other incentives to motivate them and keep them happy. The secret here is that individuals when compensated for their hard work will continue to excel in their fields. Underdeveloped countries also receive substantial foreign aid which when channelized in proper ways can further help in retaining the skilled labor. I believe underdeveloped countries need to appreciate skilled labor more for its economic development.

It is no surprise that underdeveloped and developing countries are suffering due to the increased migration of skilled labor to developed countries. What has led to this increased numbers is when the skilled labor of the country is underpaid or are not receiving little to no appreciation for their work. Take for example doctors and teachers. Doctors are paramount for an excellent healthcare system of the country. Besides, the infrastructure there is also in need of skilled doctors for which the numbers are slowly declining. In the United Nations every seventh doctor is an Indian.

What has led to this change and more migration of Indian doctors. Is the lack of Indian government to appreciate their work and lack of research oriented facilities. Teachers, who are the backbone of a developing nation, garner the youth of today to excel. There is again a declining number of quality teachers in the country due to the lack of effort by the government to retain the skilled labor. If there are no quality teachers, students will be prone to step out of school which will increase the unskilled labor. It will further hinder the economic development of the country. The exceeding number of migrating labor can be reduced if the government creates an environment of fairness and transparency for the professional workers. The financial aid that the underdeveloped countries receive should be utilized effectively. The working professional must also be rewarded for their achievements. The government also needs to work on opening more research oriented facilities in the country. If the government takes up the right actions I believe skill retention can be achieved.

An increasing number of working professionals, specifically teachers and doctors are migrating to developed countries for better opportunities. I believe it is somewhat true and in the following paragraph I will illustrate its causes along with the counter action plan. Teachers and doctors are professions that are an integral part of our society. They are the backbone of an undeveloped or a developing country. The lack of opportunities, and low income are the major causes of individuals migrating to developed nations for a better life. Quality doctors and teachers at an alarming rate are seeking opportunities in the developed countries. As they are disappointed with the working situation in their own country. Students from an early age seek admissions in foriegn colleges so that they come across better opportunities in the future. These students usually plan to work overseas rather than working in their own country. India is the biggest example of this. Lacs of individuals move overseas every year in search of better job opportunities. As the Indian government fails to provide a fair and transparent work environment to these individuals. Teachers and doctors are underpaid in the country and there is no substantial recognition for their work. To counter these the government should offer these professionals more attractive salary packages and also work on opening world-class research facilities. Students must also have access to several scholarship opportunities. Appreciation towards their work is another way to retain skilled labor in the country. If underdeveloped and developing countries make use of the received resources (foreign aid like World Bank) in an effective way. There is a possibility to retain the skilled labor of the country, thereby aiding their economic development.
