Incidence of serious crimes in India since 1953 to 2003 IELTS Writing Task 1 is an academic writing task. Band 8 IELTS Answer

The given line graph represents data on incidences of serious crimes perpetrated in India from 1953 to 2003. The general view of the graph shows a rise in all given categories of crime.

Murder in India begins from 15000 cases in 1953 and by the 2003 rolls around cases are just above 25000. The highest cases of murder were recorded between 1983 to 1993 when the number reached up to 40000 cases. The general trend in murder cases has been that they rose until 1993 and the cases saw a reduction in number. But the rise was much higher than the decline.

The cases of Rape in India were around 5000 in 1953 which increased to more than 25000 cases in 2003. The rape case have steadily risen in India and no significant fall has been seen except for a point of time around 2003.

Kidnapping offences in India have recorded data from 1973 onwards. This particular crime graph doesn’t record any major fall in the number of cases. In 1973, there were less than 5000 cases whereas in 2003 this figure reached to 20000 cases.

Band 7.5 IELTS Answer

The line graph given here depicts data about serious crimes incidences that occurred in India between 1953 and 2003. At a cursory glance, one can conclude that all given categories of crimes show a rising trend.

From 1953 to 1973, the data of only two crimes is recorded viz. rape and Murder. In this time period cases of both these crimes have significantly risen. The rise as shown in line graph has been sharp and steep. There were about 5000 cases of Rape and 1000 cases of Murder in 1953. But in 1973, there were more than 15000 cases of murder and more than 10000 cases of rape.

From 1973 onwards, the cases of Murder and rape increased, and the cases of kidnapping appear on the graph with less than 5000 recorded cases. Between 1973 to 2003, the case of rape & kidnapping continued increasing but murder cases skyrocketed and reached its peak of 40000 cases around 1993.

In the end in 2003, the cases of murder declined to a little more than 25000 cases, the number of rape cases rose to the same figure. On the other hand, kidnapping cases reached the mark of 20000 cases.

Band 7 IELTS Answer

The line graph contains data on incidences of serious crimes in India occurring between 19523 and 2003. The line graph, overall, shows that all given categories of crimes have increased.

Apparently, in 1953, kidnapping wasn’t reported whereas there were 10000 murder cases and 5000 rape cases. The graph of murder has been an alarming one because it didn’t see any major decline until 1993 when the murder cases were at their highest of 40000 cases. After 1993 the cases of murder lessened but they came down to only 25000 cases in 2003. Rape cases in India didn’t see any decline in the given period but we don’t see any unprecedented rise in this crime as well. There was a sharp decline in rape cases around 2003 but that didn’t last long as the cases rose again quickly.

By 1973 when crime of kidnapping started getting reported there were less than 5000 cases for that year. But in the successive years until 2003, the cases of kidnapping have increased significantly with absolutely no decline worth mentioning. From less than 5000 cases in 1973 it went to 20000 cases in 2003.
