Topic: In some places, young people find it difficult to communicate with older people. Why is this? What are the solutions?
Band 8 IELTS Essay
Nowadays, it should be a prime concern for society to take care of elderly people. There are some older people who are intensely independent whereas some people need assistance in certain situations. However, it has been analysed that some young people face problems to demonstrate effective communication with these elderly people. As a result, it is important to realize the causes that stimulate the problem so that the problems can be solved with effective solutions.
First and foremost, the primary cause for arising the problem of communication between young people and the older ones is the advancement of technology. This is because technology has reduced contact among people due to the emergence of online equipment. Therefore, it is required to make the elderly people up-to-date and aware of the use of online equipment to enable effective communication. I believe that promoting social activities can enhance interaction among them.
Secondly, another important cause regarding the difficulties in communication between the young people and the elderly is the difference in their interests. Younger people always keep themselves connected with technological facts. They prefer to gather data from the online platform and are more flexible with technical tools. Elderly people are more associated with topics that are related to past events and history. The possible solution to solve the difficulties of the communication gap between the two classes is the establishment of community centres. The governments should set up community centres to facilitate discussions between them regarding different topics.
Lastly, another cause that stimulates the communication gap between these elderly people with the younger ones is due to the presence of some diseases. The disease can harm the communication and the movements of other physical and social aspects. For instance, a person suffering from Alzheimer's disorder has problems recalling facts and thereby also faces problems in developing communication. Therefore, this issue can be addressed by promoting certain topics. Society should be aware of this kind of disease to recognise the difficulties in order to promote healthy discussion.
In conclusion, it is essential to have effective communication between elderly people and younger ones. This is because it would enable all of them to gain knowledge about various topics and individuals. However, there are some young ones who cannot maintain a conversation with elderly ones. This problem needs to be overcome by practical solutions that would result in developing a better environment for everyone.
Band 7.5 IELTS Essay
In certain situations, the younger generation faces difficulties while communicating with older ones. One of the primary reasons behind the same is the difference in their outlook and social understandings. However, this may be remediated with the enhancement of soft skills and effective communication.
Often we observe misunderstandings between older and younger generations on various topics or ideas. Youngsters are inclined to have a more liberal mindset, whereas older people tend to be more conservative. Hence, they do not often come out with a common agreement about any topic. Representatives of different generations are not able to come to certain conclusions satisfying both sides. It means that people of different ages look distinguishably at the same things. Another important base point is the use of technology that makes the younger generation disconnected from the older one.
One of the feasible solutions to this issue is to provide courses that are designed to develop conversational soft skills. This will not only help when talking to someone significantly older or younger. The knowledge obtained from this training may have a significant positive effect on a career in any department. Further, if people of different ages can acquire the skills of effective conversations, there would have been fewer misconceptions and misunderstandings. Based on some data, about 80% of employees who passed communicational soft skills courses did not experience communication difficulties. They feel comfortable when talking to people with opposing social ideas or arguments. Finally, some technological courses for the elders may work in a beautiful way. It can make the older generation tech-savvy and help them to put their presence on social network platforms.
In conclusion, the difference in point of view is one of the crucial reasons behind the fact that young people find it difficult to communicate with older people. However, despite all of the differences in perspective and priorities, adolescence and their older counterparts have a chance to abolish distance. The development of soft skills, communication ability and technological enhancement are among the possible solutions to this problem.
Band 6 IELTS Essay
Communication is considered to be one of the important soft skills in one’s repository as it helps to understand and build connections with others. However, it is quite common that younger people often struggle while communicating with elderly people. In my opinion, the reason is the generation gap, and we should find ways to resolve this by finding ways to bridge this gap and draw people closer.
Firstly, throughout the line of historical facts, there always exists a difference between the attitudes and behaviours of younger and older generations. This might be a result of rapid social changes, greater life expectancy, and social climbing. The youth often perceive that they hardly share any common likings or beliefs with older people, which makes it difficult for them to communicate. In some cases, older people might also not be flexible and very willing to communicate with their juniors. They started judging the juniors based on their lack of experience, which further leaves young people confused when trying to reach out to older people.
It can be resolved by unlocking more channels of communication. Implanting a willingness to learn and an open-minded attitude among both younger and older people can be beneficial for the betterment of their communication. In workplaces, two-way mentorship programs can be introduced allowing young people to mitigate the hurdle of generational differences. Finding some common interests or shifting the focus onto characteristics that bring them together can also reduce the generation gap. This will create better intergenerational communication. Lastly, there must be a mutual space of respect for each other and the difference in their values can in contrast help them communicate better with each other.
To conclude, we can say that finding functional ways to diminish the generational abyss will help younger people. They will be able to comprehend a better way of communicating with their seniors.
