Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

Without a doubt, the linguistic expressions of every given region's culture constitute its language and society. Consequently, in my opinion, it is vitally essential to comprehend the customs and culture of the local populace in order to fully learn a language. It is always advantageous to learn a new language after thoroughly understanding the customs and culture of the native speakers because it makes the process of doing so much simpler for the individual in question.

The person not only gains proficiency with the regional accent but also aids in breaking down language barriers by improving communication of ideas.  For instance, a recent survey found that most private schools throughout the world first introduce their students to the local culture and lifestyles of that location in order to help them better grasp the language of that place. As a result, a lot of students take after the fashion and way of life of these civilizations. They were able to pick up the language faster and more effectively because to this. Additionally, individuals will be better able to comprehend and use the language expressions if they learn a new language after gaining an understanding of the local culture and way of life. As a result, the concerned parties would avoid any social misunderstandings during their conversation. For instance, in Chinese culture, people frequently question their acquaintances, "Have you eaten?" when they first meet them. Such a greeting, however, might be interpreted as an invitation to a meal in other non-Western cultures. So, this could result in misunderstandings and societal misconceptions. Therefore, it is crucial to completely understand the local way of life while learning a new language. In conclusion, it can be concluded that anyone who plans to acquire a new language must learn about or have a knowledge of the local culture and way of life. Band 7 IELTS Essay

Experts often advise that it is important to have knowledge about the culture and lifestyles of the people of a country before learning the language of the people living in that region. In my opinion, this is absolutely correct. The following paragraphs shall throw light with regard to my opinion. Language, undoubtedly, helps in the development of culture.

It allows people to communicate with different members of society. Thus, it binds the people together and helps them to develop their own customs, traditions, and lifestyles. Language also helps individuals of a particular society to express themselves. This is one of the driving forces that help in the creation of society. For example, English-speaking people living in different parts of the world can converse and communicate with each other by using their own slang and manners. They also have a dialect that is quite distinct from the other members of the community. However, learning about the culture and lifestyles of the community is necessary in order to derive a complete knowledge of the local language. Gaining knowledge about the local lifestyle will not only help the individuals learn the language at a faster pace but also help avoid any sort of social misconception of misunderstanding. For example, the Japanese people encourage their people to make loud noises while having noodles as a way of showing respect to the chefs. However, in other foreign nations, such an act would be deemed as bad table manners. Thus, having an insight into the local culture and lifestyle is imperative while learning a new language. In conclusion, it can be mentioned that having an understanding of the culture, lifestyles, customs, and traditions of the indigenous people is important while learning their language. In fact, it makes the entire learning process a lot easier and more interesting. Thus, it can be said that learning about the culture and lifestyles of the indigenous will spark more interest among the individuals.

Band 8 IELTS Essay

Some people believe that it is imperative for all individuals to gain an understanding of the culture and lifestyles of the indigenous people before getting to learn their language. Some people completely disagree with this notion. I am in complete support of the former notion. Some people do not believe in gaining any knowledge regarding the local lifestyle and culture of the people. They consider it to be a complete waste of their valuable time and is completely irrelevant.

For example, many students simply enroll in a language course so that they could fetch a better job opportunity by presenting themselves as multilingual. Some others simply learn a language for travel purposes and hence, do not see the need to comprehend the local lifestyle and culture as they believe they will never travel to these countries again. Despite these factors, many experts have recommended learning and understanding the local culture and lifestyle of the people before learning their language. This is because learning about the cultural background of the people will generate more interest among the students as compared to simply learning the boring vocabulary and grammatical structures of that language. For example, gaining an insight into the living habits and local music of the people will promote the interest of the individuals to learn that particular language. Learning about the local culture and lifestyle will also allow the individuals to know the correct usage of the different slang and idioms. Thus, it would prevent any sort of social misunderstanding as well as help individuals to communicate in a better manner. For example, Chinese people ask their acquaintances ‘have you eaten’ as a way of greeting. However, this can be wrongly interpreted in other foreign cultures as an invitation for a meal. Thus, it is imperative for the people to have a basic understanding of the lifestyle of the indigenous people of the region. In conclusion, it can be said that in order to have an advanced understanding of any new language, it is very important that the students have a very good understanding of the local culture and lifestyle of the indigenous folks.
