Topic: In many countries, women are allowed to take maternity leave from their jobs during the first months after the birth of their babies. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

Band 6 IELTS Essay

In many countries the government regulations permit employed women to take maternity leave during the first few months after the birth of the child. In my opinion, this is a huge advantage which outweighs any disadvantages. It is important to understand that after the babies are born they need utmost care and warmth from their mothers, especially during the first six months. This is to ensure that babies are properly nourished and healthy and even the mother gets enough rest and time to properly get back to work.

The first few months are extremely crucial for both the child and the mother and giving maternity leave after birth important. This ensures hence, that the weakness of the mother is reduced. The advantage is that not only the babies get proper care but even the mother who might have sickness gets enough rest. This only impacts positively for the future when the woman would have to return to her employed work again. She would be able to work with complete confidence and ensure that that their motivation to get back to work is retained. Many mothers even suffer from post-maternal depression which might affect them if they immediately join work after giving birth. Certainly, it helps them grow as a person and helps their body grow positively. Furthermore, the first six months being important for the babies also ensures that mothers are able to take care of their babies without any distraction. It is also important that when the women get back to work they are not distracted by the baby’s health or care aspects. This is because after a few months they can be taken care of by nannies and others. This is because the babies generally do not need breast milk or extra care after these months and can be handled by a third person. Going to work without any of these tensions would only help the mothers to focus on their work related aspects. Hence, both their personal and professional jobs would yield positive results. Hence, the advantages of maternity leave for the first few months after the birth is more than any disadvantages.

Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

Women around the world in most countries are provided with post-maternity leave to care for their child for the first few months after their birth. There can be both advantages and disadvantages of these aspects although in my opinion, advantages outweigh disadvantages. The benefit majorly can be identified with the post-maternity leaves is that the babies are taken care of in the most effective manners. In the initial months, babies require an ample amount of care and breastfeeding from the mother.

Accordingly, women staying back and taking a break have the time and less tension to ensure that they take care of the baby. Furthermore, it may be considered that the mothers after the birth process face immense emotional baggage and even some suffer with depression. The entire break ensures that the mental health as well as the physical health reverts back to normalcy. This further helps the working mothers to ensure that they are able to focus on their work effectively. With improper physical and mental health and constant tension for their child’s health in case immediate joining is necessary, only negatively affects work. On the other hand, the six months long break eventually after maternity might have negative consequences considering the needs of the employee at the workplace. If important decisions are to be made or change needs to be instilled, the women might be required at the workplace. Her absence would affect her own image and the organisational workflow would become slower. This would affect mothers in other ways as well because any change that might take place during that time would make the woman lag behind. She would have to dwell with the changes and understand the needs which would be time consuming while immediate results would be required from her. However, her presence might be more affected immediately after giving birth as her mental and physical strength would not be equivalent. For this reason, the need for the maternity break for the first few months after giving birth is advantageous and outweighs disadvantages.

Band 7.5 IELTS Essay

Women in many countries are provided with maternity leave to care for their child for the first few months after their birth as well. This can have both benefits and drawbacks for the women. However, I feel the benefits are more essential than the drawbacks. The six months long break eventually after maternity might have negative consequences. This might be in considering the needs of the usually required by the female employees might have its drawbacks.

This may include the lesser productivity at work and the lack of the presence of the employee affecting the organisational performance. Further, any changes taking place in her absence and her lack of knowledge about the same would require her to undergo training. This would become time consuming and in many organisations, they would consider firing the employee as well. Moreover, if she joins immediately after giving birth, the possibility is that her physical and mental strains would not support her to keep up with progress. This would affect her work and the workplace culture. Her lack of ability to take care of the child and being inefficient at work would lower her work motivation and decrease productivity further. The benefits can be identified in terms of providing equivalent care to the baby and taking care of herself as well. She would have care and home-made food all the time and lack of work stress would ensure better health conditions. Accordingly, women staying back and taking a break have the time and less tension to ensure that they take care of the baby. She would even have time to ensure that she is able to endure the physical pain of giving birth while also recovering from mental health issues. Being able to access this kind of breaks post maternity helps the women employee to recover better and gain positive energy. This motivates her to come back and learn faster about new changes and present responsibilities even better. For this reason, the need for the maternity break for the first few months after giving birth is advantageous and outweighs disadvantages.
