Band 6.5 IELTS Essay
It is a very important question that are popular events like the football, cricket world cup, and other international sporting occasions essential for easing international tensions and safely releasing patriotic emotions? What are the reasons behind agreeing or disagreeing with this opinion?
It is known that the World Cup football match and the Olympics are held worldwide with great support and expectations of the nations. The sports fan of those competitions, totally convinced that sporting events and it is necessary for international relations and national unity. In the beginning, the World Cup, Olympics, and other international games were held for easing tensions among different nations. For example, South and North Korea have regularly organized football games, which helps the two countries to understand each other deeply.
In the mid-1990s, hundreds of North Korean supporters came to South Korea with the footballers during the matches who were very excited during the sporting events. Many South Koreans were quiet and surprised at that moment to see that the North Koreans shouted and cried during the match. Thus through sports, two divided nations reduce their political and ideological tensions and feel patriotic unity. With the rapid advancement of technology, young generations find huge enjoyment in such sports events. Besides that, some sports matches can make international relations worse instead of improving them. For example, football or baseball games between Korea and Japan always remain; big matches in the two countries occur with full tensions overflowing. Sometimes, the two rivals blame each other after the matches and this explodes their patriotic emotions in an aggressive way. For worse, the matches create trouble and cause losing games to affect the players directly. From history, it is known that a couple of Korean players in Japan are affected by invisible discrimination after the match between the two countries.
International sporting occasions are one of the good ways to ease tensions or to release patriotism safely. But games cannot provide the fundamental way for patriotism or peaceful international relations. Any kind of sport is essential to society. It is the way that people can become healthier than before. Besides, that people release toxic elements from off their body which helps them to save money. For example, the number of obesity and heart attacks, which is a major reason for death, today, has decreased significantly throughout the world because of people’s involvement in sports and implementation.

Band 7 IELTS Essay
Sports is considered to be a means of living by some people while certain people consider that it is important only to stay fit. It is true that successful athletes have found their way to earn profit hrough their favourite sport. However, I feel that undertaking sports as a means to earn a living is quite risky because it endangers both body and finances. The essay would discuss both the views and justify my opinion. Sports can be considered as a lucrative career for people who have been able to succeed in their respective fields. Football and Basketball has become popular in the world due to the world class leaders for instance, Christiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and many others. These sportsmen have not only achieved fame, goals and profits but have been able to contribute their bit to charities hence, expressing humanitarian behaviour. They have particpated to raise awareness on various important social issues that helped in improving people’s lives. Moreover, their passion for their sport not only benefits them but also puts their country at the centre of world stage. From Olympics to Commonwealth Games, the sports and the sportspersons represent the country as a whole via their athletes. Hence, the role of sports in society and as a career is quite organised and highly profitable.
However, while sports can be seen as a glamarous and yet a patriotic path for career and society, some people also consider it as a means of staying fit. The reality is that the younger generation is more inclined towards unhealthy eating habits and having a sedantary lifestyle. People who want to take up career as a sport need to be more active and fit in their life and eat healthier food. while a person might be involved in exercises and doing yoga which can keep him/her fit, the risks in taking sports as a career is high. A person might suffer from severe injuries and accidents which may result in grave crisis for the sportsperson. Severe injuries at times leads to a situation where the person is unable play their sport ever in their life. Such cases, though accidental, involves high risk and hence, I feel that it should e kept only as part of exercise and to stay fit rather than taking it as a career.

By Some people sports is considered as a hifhly passionate activity which they aspire to take up as their professional career while on the other hand some people use sport to only stay fit. It may be idnetified that sports like cricket, football, basketball, etc have huge fan base in the global platform. People who are passionate about sports would find themselves playing these sports since their childhood. Naturally, it becomes quite possible for people who have been involved in playing sports since a very young age to take it up as their career choice. Having a lucrative career where one is able to become famous is the desire of everyone. Having opularity by doing what one loves the most and is highly passionate about only makes the person better in its position. Certainly, people take up training, perform in different tournaments from local to national level before entering the world stage.
On the other hand, some people consider that sports is a means of staying active and fit. With the younger generation growing in unhealthy lifestyle, it is essential that they involve themselves in sports. Sprots includes lot of physical activities helping people to engage in a lifestyle where they are fit and reduce chances of obesity and other diseases. Certainly, the need to play sports occurs with the zeal to stay fit and healthy in life. Moroever, these people might love the sports that they play but it is a means of relaxation and leisure for them. Taking their leisure activity as their career is not quite beneficial considering that one needs to have the passion enough to take their favourite sport as their career choice. Hence, in my view, sport can be career or a hobby depending on the skills a person has and what drives the person to take it up as a career choice.
